Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to keep aside his ego and surrender himself before India in a last ditch attempt to save Canada’s failing vaccine programme, has resulted in some thaw in the bilateral ties of India and Canada. However, Canada continues to be a breeding ground of anti-India elements, especially Khalistani elements, the country has plunged into absolute mayhem as Indo-Canadians have allegedly been threatened should they support the revolutionary farm laws or initiate any pro India actions. The Indian government has taken a note of the threat faced by its citizens in Canada, and registered its concerns with the Trudeau government.
After multiple reports highlighted that Indo-Canadians were being threatened for pro-India actions or perceived to be critical of the farm laws, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa raised the issue of the safety of its citizens with the Canadian government.
“We are also concerned at reports that Indian citizen and friends of India who have expressed their views in support of the farm reforms in India have been targeted and subjected to intimidation, threats of violence and calls to boycott or disrupt their business,” said India’s High Commissioner to Ottawa Ajay Bisaria.
Worryingly, Indo-Canadians have received threats of rape and violence from the Greater Toronto Area, Metro Vancouver, Calgary and Vancouver. The reports of such heinous threats have created a sense of unease and fear in the community with 28 Indo-Canadian organisations in a letter raising the issue with Canada’s public safety and emergency preparedness minister Bill Blair.
Ajay Bisaria added, “In the event that any Indian national is subjected to any such threats of violence or intimidation, they should report the matter, with all details to the local police, and also bring it to our immediate attention.”
He stated, “That a flood of misinformation, blatant lies and distortions being circulated about some recent developments in India” and the “increase in rhetoric promoting violence in India” is “aimed at defaming and harming the image of India and Indians as well as to sow distrust and promote hatred between different communities of Indian origin in Canada.”
Canada over the years have emerged as a breeding ground for Khalistanis especially with the advent of the Justin Trudeau government. Currently in its second term, Trudeau failed to get a majority on his own and hence has an alliance with prominent Khalistani Jagmeet Singh’s party to cling on to power. It is alleged that a PR firm linked with Jagmeet Singh has been paying celebs like Rihanna huge sums of money to tweet about the farmers’ protests.

In the infamous toolkit, the role of Khalistani organisation Poetic Justice Foundation in the ongoing farmers’ protests was unearthed. PFJ is based in Vancouver.
As reports trickle in that India has all but given its go ahead to supply vaccines to Canada after Justin Trudeau’s personal appeal to PM Modi, India now must force Canada’s hand in acting against the anti-India elements hustling and bustling on its land. The safety of its Indian diaspora in Canada is paramount for India and bilateral ties are always a two-way street.
