Nadda passes his first big test with a huge rally in West Bengal despite threats of attack and Mamata’s restrictions

Nadda, Mamata, Bengal

How BJP National President JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked during his last visit to the state of West Bengal has been vigorously reported by TFI. After almost a month, the BJP President is back in the poll-bound state and is pulling no punches when it comes to mounting an attack on the TMC. JP Nadda, who is a Z-category protectee, was attacked along with his convoy in December with bricks, stones and other objects by goons who were allegedly carrying TMC party flags. Many would have thought that this would make the saffron party think twice about deploying its top guns to the poll-bound state.

However, JP Nadda is back in Bengal, leading from the front, despite the threat of him and his convoy being attacked still prevailing. The BJP National President, who is largely seen as a person who likes working behind the scenes has transformed himself as a front leader for the all-important West Bengal elections, simply because the stakes are too high this time around. And under his leadership, the TMC is being thrashed left, right and centre for its corruption and indifference towards the woes of the people.

For instance, Nadda called the TMC ‘tirpaal chor’, since there is a huge controversy still raging in the state – of TMC leaders stocking up tirpaals sent for the people affected by Cyclone Amphan to build temporary sheds. The tirpaals never reached a large portion for the people, much like the Rs. 6000 cash deposit which the Mamata-led government has not allowed to be passed down the farmers of the state under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. In fact, JP Nadda said that the farmers of Bengal had been deprived of the said assistance only due to the ego of Mamata Banerjee.

The rallies and roadshows being held by BJP President Nadda in Bengal are drawing a sea of people, who are frustrated with the ruling TMC government and are desperately wanting a fresh government for their state. And then, West Bengal is not just any other state for the BJP. It is one in which the karyakartas of the party have laid down their lives, been killed and harassed. Nadda on Saturday said that he himself had conducted the ‘tarpan’ ceremony for 100 slain BJP workers and supporters. The BJP President kicked off the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ on Saturday from Nabadwip in Nadia district, the birthplace of 15th-century saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

JP Nadda is proving to be not just an able administrator and leader within the BJP, but also a massive crowd-drawer. Despite being faced with threats in the politically volatile state, JP Nadda is not shying away from leading the saffron party’s campaign therein from the front.
