Here’s a Valentine’s Day love advice from Ravish Kumar you never asked for

Ravish Kumar, Valentine's Day kerala covid

It is the day of St. Valentine today – a devout, and who some may even call an extremist Christian, who is said to let his mother die of disease despite being a physician himself solely because of the fact that she refused to give up her pagan faith. For inexplicable reasons, this day (14th of February) is celebrated as the day of love between partners. In India, like around the world – observance of Valentine’s Day has become a symbol of accomplishment and social status. Keeping in mind the same, star-journalist and NDTV India anchor Ravish Kumar gave his two bits on ‘love’.

Taking to a lengthy Facebook post shared on Valentine’s Day, Ravish Kumar on Sunday cautioned girls and women to not fall in love, or enter relationships with what the journalist called “communal men”. Ravish asserted that a man who hates others will ‘never be able to love you’.

“You may marry him out of your own choice or your parents may choose him for you, but do not marry such a man. Men who are communal in thoughts are rioters not only in political space but also personal space,” Ravish claimed.

Essentially, Ravish wants women to believe that those who are hateful in public can’t be romantic in real life. Even if they are romantic, going by Ravish’s profound findings, they are not eligible to be loved, because their political choices in 2021 seem to be pro-India, nationalist and generally in favour of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

In Ravish’s world, being a Congressi or a left-lunatic is a prerequisite to be eligible for being loved ‘by women’. What is the communal thinking Ravish is talking about, however?

In all likelihood, since the post has come in the backdrop of tremendous outrage against the brutal murder of Bajrang Dal activist Rinku Sharma by Islamists, communal thinking is that which directs individuals to feel sorry for victims of Islamist crimes. If a person remains unmoved by the killing of Rinku Sharma and other Hindus, he/she is not communal, and therefore, deserves to be loved.

Ironically, the same man today passing sermons over who deserves to be loved, and who should be ignored by Indian women was, after the killing of Tabrez Ansari, mourning inconsolably for days on end. Apart from directing Indian women over who they should love from a position of misogyny, Ravish Kumar is also inciting hatred against Hindus at large, who support the BJP. This, truly, is what ‘communal thinking’ constitutes.
