Of Harvard, Obama and UMREEKA: How a boastful Nidhi Razdan made a big fool out of herself

Phishing, Twitter, Nidhi Razdan, Harvard, Obama, USA, America

Nidhi Razdan has made quite an embarrassing fool out of herself. The alleged ‘phishing’ of the former NDTV Executive Editor has most definitely exposed her as an obsessive suck-up to the United States of America. It goes without saying that the offer to Razdan for teaching ‘Journalism’ at Harvard University overjoyed her – like it would anyone. However, such is Nidhi Razdan’s ‘Umreeka’ obsession that she chose to give a complete miss to any background checks of the people making the offer to her, or any actual verification of the offer itself.

Nidhi Razdan has always been a journalist whose loyalties have seemingly lain anywhere but with India. Her recent fiasco with Harvard University only cements the said assertion. Upon being ‘appointed’ by Harvard University to teach journalism to the top students of America and the world – Nidhi Razdan’s joy was as high as the sky. The very thought of leaving India to stay and teach a supposed higher civilization where human rights are respected seems to have overawed the Kashmiri journalist, who on more instances than one can recall, lamented the absolute disregard for human rights in India.

Needless to say, upon being offered a job opportunity by an alleged Harvard University – Nidhi Razdan did not care to grow suspicious to the needed extent, despite not receiving any salary for months. Because of course, a bunch of Americans offering a job, while claiming to be from Harvard no less, could never be scamsters. After all, they’re not lowly Indians who would make a living out of duping people. Evidently, Nidhi Razdan’s American fetish has caused her a lot of embarrassment, all for nothing.

And then, how can we not mention the fact that shortly after her ‘appointment’ by Harvard University, the journalist went around like a town-crier rubbing her new job on the face of all colleagues, peers and of course – rivals. For Nidhi Razdan, the appointment by Harvard came as an opportunity to shove down the throats of her ‘dissers’ the fact that she would soon be an American citizen, while all those who didn’t like her would languish in the hell-hole called India.

The journalist was quick to update the location on her Twitter handle, and soon after news of her quitting NDTV, Cambridge, Massachusetts could be seen on her Twitter profile as the new region of residence. Of course, that she allegedly never travelled to the U.S. in the past year is a separate debate altogether. To add to Nidhi’s present embarrassment, she even claimed in Twitter replies that she was “teaching at Harvard,” despite being in India all the while and not even taking the now-normal online classes.

Prateek Kanwal, brother of journalist Rahul Kanwal in December last year even announced that Nidhi Razdan, ‘Associate Professor’ at Harvard had joined his Kautilya School of Public Policy’s advisory board. For the past eight months, ever since she quit NDTV, Nidhi Razdan has been appearing on NDTV and various other events under the banner of her being an ‘Associate Professor of Journalism’ at Harvard. This shows the journalist’s desperation to project herself as a Harvard professor in India, which somehow places her on a higher pedestal than other lesser mortals of the country.

At the core of Nidhi Razdan’s misplaced excitement is a fascination of America and its institutions, and a genuine sense of disgust towards the Indian state. The same was evident in her interaction with former U.S. President Barack Obama, whom she heaped praises on only to get ruined by the man, who denied her the opportunity to even ask a question. Yet, him being an American and not allowing a journalist to ask a single question did not outrage Nidhi or her free-speech warrior colleagues at NDTV.

Finally, we cannot seem to forget the fact that Nidhi Razdan all of a sudden, courtesy her alleged appointment by Harvard University, became the most sought-after “U.S. elections expert” in India, notwithstanding the bizarrity of her electoral analysis. The former journalist, who Prannoy Roy claimed would make NDTV proud before the duo engaged in a riveting session of American pre-poll analysis, has been effectively reduced to an international joke. The sad part really is that she is being projected by international media as an “Indian journalist” who got conned, even while Razdan’s brand of journalism has no takers in India.

After much ado about nothing, Nidhi Razdan finds herself scammed by the very people she relentlessly tried to appease. Her ‘ordeal’ should serve as an example to all others like her who seem to have an inexplicable American obsession – do not fall for everything western. Appreciate your country, culture and heritage. Also, appreciate Indian democracy and its vibrancy.
