The entire world knows how Dr Tedros led the World Health Organisation (WHO) was in cahoots with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in unleashing the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. While in the past few months as the focus shifted to the US Presidential elections and the vaccines, heat has been off the embattled WHO. However, in yet another sign that WHO is still clearly a Chinese poodle, the United Nations specialised agency has cut off the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir from India’s map.
On the website of the WHO where it displays the Covid-19 situation dashboard, Jammu and Kashmir is separated’ from the rest of India. The Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been marked in grey as if they are not a part of India with colour navy blue depicting the rest of India.
In yet another sign of how one of the key objectives of the WHO is further the Chinese propaganda, Aksai Chin – the China-captured part of Jammu and Kashmir is demarcated with grey with blue stripes, the same shade as that of China.
Expectedly, the WHO’s decision to show Jammu and Kashmir as a separate territory drew sharp reactions. “I was shocked that such a big organisation like WHO with such a big responsibility in the world could do this. Now that India is the chair it is even more important for WHO not to indulge in such activities. I know China gives huge amounts of funding to WHO and Pakistan gets loans from China and wants to keep this topic active. My feeling is that China is behind this as the influence of China on WHO is very high,” the Times of India quoted an Indian IT consultant from Jharkhand.
“This demonstrates WHO is in a nexus with China. Instead of thanking India for what it has done to fight Covid-19, including supplying PPE and vaccine to the world, this is a deliberate attempt to hurt India. WHO needs to apologise to India and correct the error,” said Nandini Singh, who heads social media for an Indian diaspora group, highlighting WHO’s inaccurate mapping of Jammu and Kashmir.
Facing intense scrutiny over its wrong portrayal of India’s integral part – Jammu and Kashmir, the WHO offered a meek defence as it claimed that the organisation follows UN guidelines and practice regarding maps.
However, this is not an isolated incident as Twitter India landed in a soup last year after it displayed the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as a part of the People’s Republic of China.

After incessant criticisms, Twitter finally woke up from its slumber to correct its mistake. However, the micro-blogging platform attempted to monkey balance in its correction. Ideally, it should have mentioned that Leh and Ladakh – Union Territory of India, but it would have been too difficult for the folks at Twitter to comprehend the simple fact. Twitter currently mentions “Jammu and Kashmir” and not “Jammu and Kashmir – India”, which reveals their blatant bias.
