Nitish Kumar’s downfall is here. After slippers, onions hurled at him during election rally

The third and final phase of Bihar assembly elections is only a few days away and the political parties and leaders are going out for one last crack at the potential voters. Sitting CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday took the ground in Madhubani to address a rally with the same intention but the response of the audience should have come as a reality check to the 3-time CM. Reportedly, onions were hurled at Nitish while he was giving his speech. As soon as the onions were thrown Kumar’s way, the security personnel accompanying him immediately formed a cordon around the chief minister and started zeroing in on the attacker.” Khubfeko, khubfeko, khubefeko (keep throwing),” said the furious Chief Minister. When the attacker was apparently caught by security personnel, he told his security to ‘let them throw and don’t pay attention to anyone, as you can understand.’

Kumar looked visibly rattled by the gesture of his audience but continued with his speech and attack on Tejashwi Yadav and his suicidal policies. This is not the first time that some object has been thrown Nitish’s way during an election rally. Last week, a slipper was thrown at Kumar by some protestor while he was going towards his helicopter after addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur district’s Sakra. However, Kumar wasn’t near the chopper then and hence the culprits missed the target. Police had taken at least three people in custody on the charge of creating disturbances at the chief minister’s rally.

While throwing objects that could potentially hurt at the CM is condemnable but a worrying trend is emerging from Kumar’s rallies which gives a signal that voters of Bihar are not happy with him. During his election trail, there have been several instances where Kumar has lost his temper and subsequently came down heavily on his audience.

Reported by TFI, while addressing an election rally in Teghra in Begusarai, a section of the crowd had raised pro-Lalu Prasad Yadav slogans which angered Nitish and he reacted “Agal bagal dekh lo aur samajh lo, yeh jiske liye kar rahe ho, yeh log sub ko jawab denge, sabka haal theek kardenge(Look around you and understand. The crowd around you will give a befitting reply to those on whose behest you are doing all this).”

In the same rally, he went on to take jibes on Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi in a rather condescending tone, which is rarely associated with Kumar.

Before the Teghra rally, Nitish was addressing a rally at Parsa in Saran district where a group of RJD supporters in the crowd started raising slogans in favour of Lalu. The three-time CM Nitish apparently got miffed and furiously scolded the crowd “Yahan par ye sab halla mat karo, tumko agar vote nahi dena to mat do. Jiske lie aaye h ouska vote aur barbaad karoge (Why are you shouting here, if you do not want to vote (for me), then don’t. You will not do any favours to the candidate you are supporting by shouting here” and then asked them to get out. He went on to attack Lalu’s family for allegedly ill-treating Aishwarya.

Nitish Kumar has had his fill of ruling over the raggedy state of Bihar and it is high time that he respects the mandate of the people and steps away from the CM seat. The anger is simmering amongst the folks of Bihar and Kumar has been repeatedly at the receiving end of it. The general consensus amongst the public is that an NDA government is storming back to power courtesy the low voter turnouts but the people of Bihar do not want Nitish as their fourth-time CM.
