It is a well-known fact that the United Nations and its specialised agencies like the World Health Organisation (WHO) are lackeys of the Chinese Communist Party simply because the CCP has managed to get its representatives elected in a plethora of UN bodies and then subsequently flood the bodies with truckloads of Chinese Yuan. It seems that the tide is finally turning, especially amidst the backdrop of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, as India defeats China in the hotly contested election to UN Commission on Status of Women- ECOSOC
In a major blow to China, India got elected as a member to the United Nation’s principal global body focussed on gender equality and women empowerment — the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
The 54-member ECOSOC held elections for two seats, which saw Afghanistan and India convincingly wining, while China was unable to cross the halfway mark.
India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti took to Twitter to announce India’s victory as he tweeted, “India wins seat in prestigious ECOSOC body! India elected member of Commission on Status of Women (CSW). It’s a ringing endorsement of our commitment to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in all our endeavours. We thank member states for their support.”
Out of the 54 votes, Afghanistan secured 39, India 38 with China having to fold up for a paltry tally of 27. This is a major embarrassment for China as despite being a permanent member of the UNSC, Beijing couldn’t cross the halfway mark.

To further rub salts into the wounds of China, its lost coincided with the silver jubilee of the famous Beijing World Conference on Women which was held in 1995.
Press Trust of India reports that India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, TS Tirumurti worked tirelessly for the election as he reached out and sanitised all the member states.
This defeat is just the beginning of the end of China’s hold on the United Nations as the damaging defeat has made China isolated with countries hesitating from supporting China in major international forums. The Wuhan coronavirus pandemic has unmasked China and the whole world knows about the threat posed by China which is fast becoming a rogue state and hence, countries are banding together to isolate China.
