Delhi Riots: Female rioter reveals DU professor Apoorvanand masterminded Delhi riots with Umar Khalid

DU needs a cleanup

Delhi riots, Apoorvanand

The skeletons of the Northeast Delhi riots are coming out in the open one after another and Urban Naxals masquerading as imminent academicians are now being exposed. According to a report by Zee News, Delhi Police has recorded a statement from one of the main accused in the Delhi riots, Gulfisha Fatima alias Gul where she states that Delhi University professor Apoorvanand was the mastermind behind the Delhi riots.

Gulfisha was one of the members of the Pinjra Tod campaign. She is currently arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and serving a jail term. According to Gulfisha, she met ‘Pinjra Tod’ group’s Devengana and Paroma Roy during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and through them Apoorvanand.

Gulfisha mentioned that Apoorvanand was at the forefront of the planning being hatched for the Delhi riots. She has confessed on record that Professor Apoorvanand also praised her after the riots for doing a good job.

However, Apoorvanand, fearing his name will come out in the open, allegedly tried to brainwash Gulfisha and told her to not name him or the ‘Pinjra Tod’ group if they are caught by the police for stoking riots.

She further mentioned that the DU professor had directed her and her coterie of rioters to gather the important supplies for the riots.

“The professor had sent us a message for the riots, following which we were asked to collect stones, empty bottles, acid, knives and the Khwateen members were asked to stuff dry red chillies,” said Gulfisha.

Gulfisha has told the cops that the decision to block the road below Jaffrabad Metro Station was taken on February 22. Keeping in mind the visit to US President Donald Trump, Chand Bagh road was also blocked. This was being monitored by Apoorvanad.

Based on statements given by Gulfisha, Delhi Police’s Special Cell called Apoorvanad for questioning on August 3. His phone was also seized for further probe after five hours of questioning.

The Professor had stated on the following day and urged Delhi Police to conduct a fair probe and not victimise anti-CAA protesters.

Tahir Hussain-Umar Khalid-Apoorvanand

These revelations come at the heels of confession of former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, Tahir Hussain who a couple of weeks back cracked before the Delhi Police’ Special Investigative Team (SIT), and admitted that the Delhi riots were planned and executed by him and other members of his community.

Tahir Hussain also reportedly admitted to having masterminded the entire riots, to teach ‘Hindus a lesson’. Hussain told the police that he wanted to do so using his money and political power. It must be remembered that Tahir Hussain was suspended by the AAP only after his role in orchestrating the riots to specifically target Hindus was revealed.

And just the way Tahir Hussain had met Umar Khalid at the PFI office in Shaheen Bagh on January 8, 2020, Professor Apoorvanand was in constant touch with Khalid and had orchestrated the events leading up to February 24.

Regarding Umar Khalid’s role in the Delhi riots, Gulfisha iterated that Umar Khalid revered Apoorvanand as a father figure and that they all had clandestine meetings to plan the riots.

“We had clandestine meetings with Professor Apoorvanand, Umar Khalid and Digar members. Umar Khalid told us that he had good relations with PFI and JCC. There is no shortage of money. With their help, we will overthrow the Modi government. Umar Khalid treated Professor Apoorvanand as his father,” said Gulfisha.

There has been no iota of doubt that academic institutions like DU and JNU are festered with left-leaning academicians. From G N Saibaba to Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil to now Apoorvanand, the examples are aplenty. DU needs to take a good hard look at its eroding credibility and the professors it hires. Otherwise, the already falling reputation of DU will further plummet to the deepest of the gorges.
