‘Those who say ladke hain, galti ho jaati hai should not preach,’ Yogi tears into Mulayam Singh Yadav

Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set new benchmarks when it comes to dealing with rioters and hooligans. When anti-CAA violence gripped the state of Uttar Pradesh, the UP Police responded with great efficiency, taking the rioters and arsonists to the task.

Ever since the Yogi government dealt sternly with anti-CAA rioters, the Uttar Pradesh CM has also come under fire from the Opposition and the anti CAA lobby with bizarre allegations high handed approach by the UP Police and all kinds of rumours and myths doing the rounds.

Now, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has hit out at the Opposition and those sympathising with the anti-CAA rioters. In his State Assembly address following the discussion on the Governor’s address, the Uttar Pradesh CM said that the role of the State Police in dealing with the anti-CAA rioters should be appreciated.

He also defended the UP Police over the deaths during the anti-CAA violence in the state. CM Yogi made it clear that those rioters were shot by other rioters and as such, it was not the police which was to be blamed for those deaths.

CM Yogi articulated that none of the rioters died of a police bullet and all such deaths took place due to the rioters’ bullet. It is clear that as such the Uttar Pradesh Police did not have a role to play in the death of anti-CAA rioters.

He also made it clear that nothing could be done to save someone with a death wish. He said, “If someone is coming with an intention to die, how can he remain alive?” The Chief Minister also said, “If someone comes out to kill an innocent person and he is challenged by police, then either he or the policemen have to die.”

Further, he made it clear that the Uttar Pradesh administration would keep dealing sternly with all those involved in violence and added, “Jo jis bhasha main samjhega, usey uss bhasha main samjhayenge (We will talk to them in the language they understand).”

He didn’t only hit out at the anti-CAA lobby and rioters, but also took on the Opposition not mincing words in his relentless assault on the Opposition parties, particularly the Samajwadi Party.

When the Opposition tried cornering the Chief Minister over the issue of women empowerment, he took a veiled dig at the Samajwadi Party patriarch, Mulayam Singh Yadav over his infamous remarks defending rapists.

Yogi recalled Mulayam’s “boys will be boys remarks”. Mulayam Singh Yadav had opposed death penalty for rape, and had created a massive controversy with his misogynist remarks. He had said, “ladke, ladke hain … galti ho jati hai (boys will be boys … they commit mistakes).”

He also spoke of ‘Ramrajya’ which the Governor had also mentioned in her address. He made it clear that it had no religious connotations.

The Chief Minister further said, “The country needs Ramrajya’ not ‘Samajwad’,” and also added that his government is committed to Ramrajya that means governance for public welfare.

He also hit out at the SP patriarch over the police firing on ‘kar sevaks’ who had gathered in Ayodhya on October 30 in the year 1990. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the UP Chief Minister at that time.

CM Yogi said that now those who had gathered in Ayodhya on the fateful day stand vindicated, while it has been proven that those who fired at them are culpable.

UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath’s Assembly speech has thus alleviated all myths and rumours of police brutality against the anti CAA rioters.

In a stinging attack, he has also exposed the hypocrisy of Opposition parties, particularly the Samajwadi Party and its patriarch, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
