Senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has vowed to take to the streets of Madhya Pradesh if the Kamal Nath government does not fulfil its promise of regularizing guest teachers in the state. The attacks comes after increasing tensions between the Scindia and Kamal Nath camps in Madhya Pradesh.

“Our manifesto (for Assembly elections) had promised to fulfil your demand. The manifesto is a sacred book for us. If every promise is not fulfilled, I will take to the streets with you. Don’t think you are alone,’’ said Jyotiraditya Scindia to tense guest teachers who were raising slogans in his rally. Guest teachers have been protesting in Bhopal for weeks now, demanding that their services be regularized, as promised in the Congress party’s election manifesto for Madhya Pradesh.

It must be remembered that the Congress governments in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have earned themselves a reputation of not fulfilling promises made in their manifestos. Take the issue of farm loan waivers. In Madhya Pradesh, Scindia had also come down heavily on Kamal Nath’s government for not waiving farm loans upto Rs. 2 lakh. The government had waived off farm loans only upto Rs. 50,000.

On the same issue, Jyotiraditya Scindia had earlier said, “The farm loan waiver of farmers has not been done in totality. Loan of only Rs 50,000 has been waived off even when we had said that loan upto Rs 2 Lakh will be waived off. Farm loan upto Rs 2 Lakh should be waived off.” It is also relevant to mention here that after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, Scindia had supported the Modi government’s move, going against his party’s diktats of opposing the move.

In recent times, Scindia has not shied away from boldly dissenting against his party. Last year, while interacting with media in Gwalior, Scindia was asked a question about senior party leader, Salman Khurshid’s remark about leadership “vacuum” within the Congress. To this, Scindia replied, “I don’t comment on others’ statement, but it is true that the Congress needs introspection. The party’s situation should be assessed and improved, and this is the need of the hour.”

What Scindia has now threatened to do is start a mass movement against Chief Minister and 1984 Anti-Sikh riots accused Kamal Nath, who was gifted the CM’s post after the elections in 2018 by the Gandhis. Scindia would, as a result, be leading a protest on the streets against Kamal Nath. There have been whispers of Scindia aligning himself to the Right for ultimately joining the BJP. Now, with Scindia threatening to lead protests against the Congress government in MP, he is all set to bring Kamal Nath’s Chief Ministership to culmination.
