As Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is about to hit the theatres in a few days, Ajay Devgn is in no mood to take chances with his ambitious movie. The actor has slammed the caste-controversy being coiled around the movie which depicts the story of Tanhaji Malusare, a close confidante of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Notably, the Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Koli Rajput Sangh filed a petition before the Delhi High Court claiming that Om Raut, the director of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior had concealed the true lineage of the great warrior Tanaji Malusare in the movie. Sangh has filed the petition as the caste of the great warrior was not depicted in the movie.
In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Ajay Devgn said, “Some people are enraged that we did not disclose the caste of Tanhaji, I want to ask that why the caste is important as Tanhaji fought for the nation.” Subedar Tanhaji Malusare had recaptured the Kandana Fort alongside ensuring the downfall of the Mughal Empire. Ajay alluded to this nationalistic laurel of the great Maratha warrior while terming that warriors cannot be perceived in terms of caste.
In a recent interview with Mirror, Ajay Devgn revealed plans of his ambitious film, his inspiration behind the period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, and the probable films he is looking at in the future. Ajay confesses his production house is looking for developing a franchise based on the warriors in history, who have not got their day under the sun. That is when the idea of Tanhaji Malusare came to director Om Raut and Ajay.
Ajay further says the next subject in the franchise would be inspired by King Suheldev, who defeated Mahmud of Ghazni’s army in Bahraich (in present-day Uttar Pradesh) in 11th century AD. Ghazni had infamously raised the Somnath Temple to the ground, when Suheldev defeated their armies and rebuilt it. The film will be based on Amish Tripathi’s next book the author is currently writing.
Ajay Devgn has always stood up for the Indian culture and values; displaying his affection towards the Indian culture he even partnered with famous comic ‘Amar Chitra Katha’. Announcing this in a tweet, he said, “History may not repeat itself but lessons of bravery & valour from our shur-veer yoddhas like Tanaji are a great example for our children. I’m happy to announce a special edition of Amar Chitra Katha featuring Tanhaji. Get your copy soon.”

It must be noted that Ajay Devgn is one of the actors who put nation above all the other things. He has been a vocal supporter of cultural and nationalistic values and as this movie hits the halls, it would enlighten the world about the legendary warrior- Tanhaji. It is commendable that Ajay has refused to engrave Tanhaji into petty caste and regional controversies exhibiting fine conscience which is quite rare in the film industry.
