Since the Communist party was elected in Nepal in 2017, China became a major foreign player in the polity of the Himalayan country. China has put the Communist government of Nepal on a high pedestal. The paramount leader of China-Xi Jinping, paid a visit to Nepal after his interaction with PM Modi in Mahabalipuram.
However, despite the growing bonhomie between the leaders of both countries, the people of the Himalayan country do not perceive China with high regards. And they have solid reason to do so. In the last few months, Chinese people and companies were found to be involved in bride trafficking, hacking, and data theft in Nepal.
The sex ratio of China is among the worst due to its disastrous one-child policy and therefore many Chinese companies are involved in bride trafficking from countries like Pakistan and Nepal.
In August this year, four Chinese Nationals namely Zhen Xianjdong, Zhang Donghui, Quan Zhan Peng and Qin Liyang of China’s Hubei province were arrested from Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu.
“They were involved in trafficking Nepali girls and women to China as brides,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Ishwar Babu Karki. “At first, we arrested two Chinese — Quan and Qin with two Nepali brides from the Tribhuwan International Airport on Wednesday as suspicion grew over them. We later came to know about the racket. We arrested the eight others and rescued five victims,” he added.
The Chinese operatives promised to provide lucrative to trap women from rural parts of Nepal. The people in China are ready to pay millions for brides as they are able to marry, given skewed sex ration in China.
Previously, it was reported that a number of Chinese men in Pakistan have openly entered into fake marriages with Pakistani women with the ulterior motive of forcing them into prostitution. Cases of their organs being harvested have also been reported. As per a Pakistani news show, it was reported that the Chinese men trap Pakistani women on the pretext of giving them Rs. 40,000/- along with mobile phones and Chinese visas.
A study by the World Economic Forum reported that China has the worst sex ration in the world. “In terms of gender equality, the nation ranked 99 out of 144 countries, down from 91 last year, the report said. A wide gap also exists in education levels of men and women on the mainland. China was 119 in terms of secondary school attainment, behind countries including Singapore, South Korea and Ghana,” wrote Viola Zhou in South China Morning Post in 2016.
The countries like Pakistan and Nepal, which depend on China for loans, also risk the lives of their citizens to Chinese human traffickers.
Chinese policies in the Himalayan country are harmful to the interest of the people, but the Communist government is protecting Chinese companies, and people.
Huawei, the Chinese company which has been infamous for hacking and data theft, hacked 200 Nepali websites, including some government websites, reported Economic Times. The Nepalese people held protest in front of Huawei’s office and shouted anti-China, anti-Huawei slogans. The protesters also tried to enter Huawei’s office, but were arrested by the police.
The Chinese embassy in Nepal has got a free hand in Nepal and they are protecting Chinese interest by all possible means. The Communist government is whitewashing the illegal activities like hacking, data theft, and bride trafficking.
