As the international community dismisses Pakistan rants, India is reaping the fruits Narendra Modi’s diplomacy and foreign tours

After Modi government rendered Article 370 ineffective and bifurcated the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, Pakistan has been struggling to churn international support against India. However, major international powers and organizations have either refrained from commenting on the developments or clearly sided with India calling the legislative developments as an ‘internal’ matter. These international reactions are sure to spark curiosity around the change in strategic dynamics regarding India and Pakistan over the past few years.

While the opposition and many in the pseudo-liberal media have oftentimes denigrated PM Narendra Modi’s efforts towards reaching out to the international community, questions have also been raised as to the result of such foreign tours and whether these foreign tours have achieved the intended goals. Nonetheless, the geopolitical developments over the past few years are the most befitting reply to all the pessimists an critics of PM Modi’s diplomacy. Recent events, that is, the current reaction of the international community regarding legislative developments in Jammu and Kashmir, vindicate PM Modi’s efforts of outreach in the world stage. India has already managed to bring to the fore Pakistan’s deep involvement in terrorism and achieved an FATF blacklisting for the country, and now on the Kashmir matter Pakistan’s rants have no takers.

While Pakistan is getting support from a handful fringe states; USA, Russia, EU, Sri Lanka, even Muslim majority nations like UAE, Maldives, Afghanistan have sided with India and most of the states have maintained the issue to be ‘internal’ to India and also struck off any possibility of International interventions citing the ‘bilateral’ nature of dispute resolution mechanism between two nations.

The clarity of approach in the statements further substantiates support for India’s stand. A statement from Russian foreign ministry said, “Moscow expects that India and Pakistan will not allow aggravation of the situation in the region due to the change by Delhi in the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. We proceed from fact that the changes associated with the change in the status of the state of J&K and its division into two union territories are carried out within framework of the Constitution of the Republic of India Russia is a consistent supporter of normalization of relations between India and Pakistan.  We hope that the differences between them will be resolved by political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis”

This statement not only conclusively pitches for the legislative developments in Kashmir to be an internal matter for India, but also calls for bilateral resolution of any dispute between India and Pakistan. Muslim majority nations coming out against Pakistan surely indicates a major shift in International perspective regarding India and Pakistan. Dr Ahmad Al Banna, the UAE ambassador to India reiterating the official stand of the gulf nation had said “The reorganisation of states is not a unique incident in history of independent India & that it was mainly aimed at reducing regional disparity & improving efficiency. It is an internal matter as stipulated by the Indian Constitution.”

At the United Nations also, Pakistan faced an embarrassing double whammy this week. After the UN secretary general evoked the Simla agreement of 1972, refusing to intervene on the matter, the President of the United Nations Security Council outright refused to comment on Pakistan’s letter to the UN secretary general. India’s stature has risen on the world stage, thanks to Narendra Modi’s brilliant and immaculate diplomacy which involved several foreign tours.

While India has emerged as a sustainable and credible partner towards a stable world order, Pakistan has been exposed as a clear aggressor and a dangerous risk to peace in the region. Moreover, several nations have also called on Pakistan to take conclusive actions against terrorists breading on its soil. Nonetheless, efforts by the Modi Government in this regard to further solidify the trust of the international community are surely paying off in situations like these where nations like Pakistan use blackmailing tactics to overshadow ground realities and hatch nefarious plots against humanity.
