Rahul Bose who is no stranger to controversy and does not miss a chance to mention about his rugby skills and fitness has done it again. This time too, it is on the side effects of his Gym session i.e., on the bill of his ‘fruit platter’ which had ‘two bananas’ & he has the local tax official going bananas over his bill.
The incident took place in the 5 star JW Marriott hotel in the upmarket sector 35 locality in Chandigarh in which Rahul was putting up for his shooting schedule.
Rahul Bose posted a 37 second video on his twitter timeline 5 days ago mentioning how he was charged 442.5 Rs for 2 bananas and stated towards the end of his video that these were too good for him.
You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful folks at @JWMarriottChd #goingbananas #howtogetfitandgobroke #potassiumforkings pic.twitter.com/SNJvecHvZB

What Rahul failed to mention and which is apparent from the bill in his video is that he was charged for ‘fruit platter’ and not for ‘2 bananas’.
After posting this video on twitter Rahul got the attention of not just twitterati but of the local tax authorities as well since his bill mentioned GST charges too.
The City’s local tax official Mandip Singh Brar in a clear case of administrative overreach ordered a probe into the incident. He in fact, went a step ahead and formed a 3 member team and directed an investigation into an “illegal and exorbitant charge of GST” by the hotel. The team visited the JW Marriott hotel in Sector 35 and also confiscated records according to media reports.
Now since the hotel has charged Rahul Bose on ‘fruit platter’ and not ‘2 bananas’ the matter ideally should have ended there.
But it seems the local tax official instead of solving real complaints and genuine concerns of common citizens is busy solving rants of elitist actors like Rahul Bose. Hopefully, in the times to come local tax officials come out of their ‘celebrity fix’ and try to address the concerns of common citizens with as much speed and enthusiasm as they have shown in addressing this non issue.
