During the first tenure of the Modi government, Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, had emerged as one of the top performing ministers. With his innovative ideas in governance and his ability to turn challenges into potential opportunities, he had raised the bar as far as governance was concerned. Now, it seems that during the second term of the Modi government, the Union Minister who has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagpur constituency has started from where he had left in the first tenure.
As per latest reports, the Union government will establish an online platform on the lines of “Amazon and Alibaba”. This platform will be involved in selling products of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and Khadi products. MSME Minister, Gadkari, himself disclosed this development while speaking in the Lok Sabha, a day before the budget was presented. He was responding to a question raised by MP Chandan Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party during Question Hour. Nitin Gadkari also made it clear that he is serious about promoting the MSME sector globally.
Elaborating further, Nitin Gadkari stated that Amazon in US and Alibaba in China had proved beneficial for their MSME sector. He added, “On those lines, for MSME and Khadi Gramudyog, we are going to launch a big marketing site. The preparations have started and a lot of people and industries will have access to it.”
It is important to mention here that the MSME sector is a big driver of national growth in India, however, due to the lack of sources and awareness, the sales for this sector suffer greatly. Once an online platform is launched, it will be of great help as it will widen the horizons of the MSME sector and help it in gaining global reach. As such, tremendous growth in the MSME sector has the potential of ramping up India’s growth rate and also of creating more jobs. Gadkari said that his aim is to create 50 million new jobs through the MSME sector. According to Nitin Gadkari, “Targets should be big…our target is that in the next five years, we will contribute 50% to India’s gross domestic product (GDP), and we will give employment to 5 crore (more) people.”
Gadkari also made it clear that he was serious about putting his words into action. He further added, “You know that everything I have said has been done. If it does not happen, then you can come back and question me. But since I am announcing it, this target too will be achieved like roads.”
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari deserves to be applauded for his sincere efforts in ensuring the growth of the MSME sector. MSME sector contributes greatly to India’s GDP and as such robust growth of this sector is the key to faster economic growth. This is also in line with the Modi government’s policy of promoting the growth of MSME companies. The government has taken special care to ensure robust growth of such small-sized companies, the MUDRA Yojana being an example of Modi government’s efforts towards better growth in the MSME sector. As a minister in the Modi government, he has already set a very high benchmark as far as performance is concerned and now with this announcement he has made it clear that he will continue to take innovative steps and implement out of the box ideas in an attempt to bolster the economic growth of the country.
