After Amit Shah’s intervention, 17 people arrested so far in Chandni Chowk temple attack case

Since Home Minister Amit Shah has taken matters in his hand, the Chandni Chowk temple vandalism case is progressing quickly. In the latest, the Delhi police has arrested a man and detained 4 juveniles in connection with the case. With the new spate of arrests, the total number has reached 17. More arrests are anticipated as the police are on an active lookout for other suspects in Chandni Chowk temple attack case.

This is concerning the attack on a temple in Chandni Chowk that took place on 30th June wherein a scuffle between 2 groups led to one group throwing stones on the nearby temple, vandalizing it. A group of men was indulging in substance abuse after parking their scooter infront of another’s house. The resident of the house had objected to this. Thereafter, the perpetrator got a group of people to beat the resident and his family. The 2 groups belonged to separate religions and when things took an ugly turn, the group who was drinking alcohol on the scooter decided to desecrate a nearby temple in Chandni Chowk. Video of the attack on the temple also showed that the people were chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’. The video and the news of the attack on the evoked strong reactions from all over the country.

On Wednesday, Amit Shah summoned Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to discuss the issue and the progress police had made on it. After the meeting, Patnaik said, “I have briefed him about the situation here. The situation is well under control now.” He further added, “We have the CCTV footage. These are a group of criminals… we are analysing the footage and all those involved will face action.”

It seems Amit Shah’s involvement in the case has worked and the police are on their toes. Apart from Amit Shah, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan had also visited the area on Tuesday and said, “It is very unfortunate and painful. The kind of things done to the temple is unforgivable.”

After Harsh Vardhan’s visit to the area, things returned to normal for the citizens there. On Thursday, the police said that the market had re-opened and that things had returned to normalcy.

By taking control of the situation, Amit Shah has established that the situation is unforgivable and more than that, it deserves to be a priority of the government as well as the Police. The summoning of Delhi Police Chief by Union Home Minister Amit Shah had shown that the attack on the temple will not be taken lightly and culprits will be brought to justice. The personal involvement of the Home Minister ensured that Delhi Police will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the criminals who vandalized the temple.
