Controversial comedy group AIB comes back with a child smoking weed video, fails to crack netizens up

AIB Weed MeToo

Controversial comedy group AIB, which had virtually disappeared after the ‘MeToo’ campaign gained prominence, is back in action with the following video. Failing to crack people up and instead offending an whole bunch, the group has now deleted the video from its Instagram account.

Through this video, the AIB group which went down last year over a horde of MeToo allegations, tried to recreate an important scene in the popular film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ with a humorous effect. A girl child is seen smoking in what appears to be marijuana in the altered video. In the video, the scene where Anjali gets emotional on the mention of the word ‘Maa’ has been twisted, with Anjali rolling a paper with weed, and smoking it openly. Apart from that, an additional effect has been added, where both Anjali and her father Rahul’s eyes have been reddened by the smoke generated by the weed. Following are some still shots from the video –

For those unaware, in the original scene, Anjali participates in an extempore competition in the school. She was supposed to pick a chit from the glass bowl and speak on the subject mentioned in the same. When Anjali reaches on the stage, she is brimming with confidence. However, the moment she reads the word ‘Mother’, she gets emotional and is unable to speak. As per the plot, her mother had passed away when she was barely an infant.

However, of all things, AIB thought it better to show the child smoking weed instead. Worse, Anjali is in front of a crowd in which her father and grandmother were also sitting. Through this atrocious video, the group wishes to normalize the deplorable sight of children openly smoking marijuana, or Ganja, a psychoactive drug. The video failed to earn laughs and needless to say, the video wasn’t liked by the netizens and they trolled AIB left, right and center for the same –

To make matters worse, the girl in question, and now actress Sana Saeed, found this video ironically hilarious. She posted the following on the Instagram page –

The way Sana Saeed has normalized this atrocious video, sends a wrong message with respect to the children in context. However, this is not the first time someone in the group thought of normalizing atrocious content in the name of comedy. Years ago, in 2016, AIB was thoroughly criticized for making an extremely insulting video on Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar, with Tanmay Bhat doing the voiceover. Interestingly, Tanmay Bhat has been extremely notorious for his vulgar tweets, masquerading as dark humor, especially those glorifying paedophilia and sexual assaults all of which were called out by men and women when the MeToo movement was peaking last year.

Quickly sensing the sever backlash, the AIB group deleted the video from its instagram feed.

VIDEO REMOVED BY AIB

Not only Tanmay Bhat, the other co founders of AIB like Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya and others found it cool to insult, jeer at prominent people in the name of tickling the funny bones. Be it mocking PM Modi every now and then, or putting dog filter on a lookalike of PM Modi in order to shame him publicly, you name it and AIB has done it. Interestingly, their so called ethics went for a toss when aspiring comedian Mahima Kukreja accused their former colleague, Utsav Chakraborty of sending vulgar pictures to her.

Following the multiple sexual harassment allegations that were raised against the top brass of AIB, including the likes of Tanmay Bhat and Gursimranjeet Singh ‘Khamba’, the MeToo affected group has announced that their future is uncertain as they deal with the current situations. Amidst all this, AIB thinks it is hilarious to show the minor girl smoking up weed. Though Tanmay Bhat is no more the CEO of AIB, the recent video meme adds to the ignominious collection of the perverse and twisted ideals of what is acceptable as ‘comedy’ by the group of AIB.
