Bollywood star Zaira Wasim, known for her amazing work of acting in Dangal and Secret superstar, to be seen now in Shonali Bose’s, “The sky is Pink”; has announced that she will be leaving the acting industry as it conflicts with her religion.
Zaira Wasim has taken to her Instagram and Facebook accounts to announce her decision to quit Bollywood. The move has no doubt rendered a lot of people shocked as she had amassed a huge following and achieved a lot in her short 5 years in Bollywood.
She stated, “That after 5 years, she is unhappy with the identity of an actor and that she does not belong here.”
She further stated, “This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan. While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened. As I continued to ignorantly pass through while I kept trying to convince myself that what I was doing is okay and isn’t really affecting me, I lost all the Barakah from my life.”
“I kept procrastinating by tricking and deluding my conscience into the idea that I know what I am doing doesn’t feel right but assumed that I will put an end to this whenever the time feels right and I continued to put myself in a vulnerable position where it was always so easy to succumb to the environment that damaged my peace, iman and my relationship with Allah.”
While Zaira Wasim states that she loved her work and fit perfectly there, she was uncomfortable as it constricts her identity as a Muslim. Islam essentially has come out in the form of a hindrance on the path to professional fulfillment, and it is no denying the fact that Zaira Wasim was an excellent actor.
In this regard, a number of Islamic preachers and Quarnic scholars have come out praising her decision, including Ismail ibn Musa Menk, an Islamic scholar in Zimbabwe who said, “May the Almighty bless you, be with you, keep guiding you, protect you, grant you goodness, happiness, contentment, bliss and success in this world and the next & the same for every one of us. Aameen.”
The religion is against women being in positions of glamour and showbiz, as is evident from the fact that none of the Islamic countries send women to beauty pageants. Moreover, just recently, actress Nusrat Jahan came under the radar when Dar-ul-Uloom had stated, “Nusrat Jahan is an actor and for actors religion is of no importance. They go as per their wishes.”
It is obvious that such negative remarks of the religious scholars, towards an individual’s profession tends to have an impact on their mind. They believe that to be a successful professional is to go against the religion which seldom to choose to. Zaira Wasim today has chosen to give into the religious demands and has thrown away her rising career, something which she will no doubt regret years later.
