Generally, in the country, a person is called a ‘criminal’ when they commit an act contrary to the established law in the country. However, in West Bengal, the procedure is a bit different and the tyrant government in the state defines criminality. According to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, silencing those voices who speak out against her, through violence is perfectly acceptable; whereas, those who yell out slogans worshiping their gods are deemed criminals. In response to citizens chanting the “Jai Shri Ram” slogan, 7 of them have been detained by Mamata Banerjee.

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee had deemed the shouting of the “Jai Shri Ram” slogan, an abuse. In a video that has gone viral, a group of people are shown chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans while Mamata Banerjee was passing through the Bhatpara area of North 24 Parganas district. The area is the stronghold of the newly-elected BJP MP Arjun Singh, who had defected to the saffron party from the TMC ahead of the Lok Sabha election and had managed to defeat the TMC candidate there.

On hearing the slogans, an infuriated Mamata Banerjee got out of the car and asked her security officials to note down the names of the men. She was heard saying, “What do you think of yourself? You will come from other states, stay here and abuse us? I will not tolerate this. How dare you all abuse me? All of your names and details will be noted down.”

In light of this bizarre incident, 7 people have been detained today for chanting the slogan. This is a clear violation of a person’s fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression and even against their right to religion. The TMC tyrant doesn’t believe the right to speech and expression exists and her views on the right to religion changes according to the religion.

This not a one off incident as earlier this month, Mamata banerjee had created a similar scene. On 5th April, a group of people had shouted “Jai Shri Ram” while her convoy was passing through West Midnapore district’s Chandrakona area. That time as well, Banerjee had stepped out from her vehicle in a bid to confront the people who had fled after seeing her. She said, “Palachhis keno? Ay ay. Haridas sob. Galagali sikheche. (Why are you running away? Come Here. Who do you think you are? Using slangs.) Thereafter, 3 people had been detained in connection to this, but were later let off. This had essentially implied that it was illegal in Mamata Banerjee’s rule to say “Jai Shri Ram”.

With yesterday’s incident, the TMC supremo has stated that chanting Shri Ram’s name is an abuse. She is clearly being vindictive against the BJP supporters, as has been clear from her comment on “outsiders and BJP people”. According to the leader accusing BJP of “communal politics”, this act of deeming certain citizens who chant Shri Ram’s as outsiders is highly hypocritical.

The people, clearly unperturbed started chanting “Jai Shri Ram” once again when Mamata Banerjee sat down in her car, which made her disembark again. This has clearly shown the tyrant that people are becoming fearless now, not afraid to raise their voice as her rule is soon going to be over soon enough. The state is getting out of Mamata’s hand and in her trepidation; she is doing what she does best- oppressing the voices through violence. However, now she has a situation in which the more she oppresses, the more people are vying to get out of the hold for they have seen a new light through BJP. All the violent oppression is going to do is further Mamata’s unpopularity and irrelevance, leading to electoral ramifications during the state assembly elections, a mere 2 years down the road.
