The year of 1984 marks the year of the worst genocide that took place in the country. It is also a big black spot in the history of Congress rule in the nation. Alluding to this issue the BJP once again attacked the Congress Party by bringing out facts from the Nanavati Commission report which was responsible for the probe on the 1984 Sikh riots.

According to the BJP the Commission states clearly that the then Congress government under Rajiv Gandhi had ordered the killing of innocent Sikhs. The Congress has always been surrounded by the controversy that the riots took place with the government’s consent while Rajiv Gandhi was at the helm of affairs as the Prime Minister. He nudged the riots to avenge his mother, Indira Gandhi’s death who was assassinated by her two Sikh bodyguards.
In his statement earlier, the Prime Minister said that the Rajiv Gandhi’s regime as the Prime Minister of India was full of controversies and corruption. He also called the former PM “corrupt no 1” citing the Bofors Scam and the Bhopal Gas tragedy. In further development, taking a jibe at the Congress, the BJP has now revealed that the killing of the innocent Sikhs was with the consent of the Congress Government. BJP on many occasions has promised that the culprits of the 1984 Sikh riots will be punished. It has finally started to investigate into the matter and searched through the probe reports in order to catch hold of the people who are mainly accused for the riots.
President Amit Shah on punishing the culprits said, “Thousands of Sikhs were killed in 1984 and nobody was punished ever since. But after Modi government was formed, justice was delivered to families of the victims. Those who were involved (in the riots) and whether they are in Jabalpur, Kanpur or Delhi, they will be sent to jail,” He said so while addressing the rally at Pathankot.
It’s on record of Nanavati Commission that probed the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the biggest genocide of India in which the government killed its own citizens, that instructions to kill came directly from the then PM Rajiv Gandhi’s office.

It took 21 years and nine commissions of inquiry for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots to get their first token of justice. When Justice G.T. Nanavati handed his report on February 9, 2005, he casts aspersions on the role of individual Congress leaders. It took another six months for the Congress-led UPA Government to try to cover up what Nanavati had sought to uncover. The Nanavati Commission was a one-man commission headed by Justice G. T. Nanavati, a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India, appointed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in May 2000, to investigate the “killing of innocent sikhs” during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
While the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi has still not given any comment on the revelations by BJP, Priyanka Gandhi said that it was inappropriate of the PM to insult a former politician “brahshtachari”. The Congress leader can try their best to defend the claim, but they can’t deny that the secular propaganda the party puts in forefront of their campaigns is marred with blood of thousand innocent people. It is now to see what actions does the new government takes over the issue of riots, and how long the people will have to wait for the justice they deserved long ago.
