Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s insensitivity has surpassed his earlier set standards. In an attempt to pass an inconsiderate remark on the country, not only did he come off as an imbecile but also insulted his own family. A little more than a month after the dastardly terror attacks which took the lives of 44 CRPF personnel, Rahul Gandhi believes that terrorism is not an issue in the country.
It is truly absurd that the Congress heir, who has lost 2 of his family members to terrorism in the past, including his own father, can make such an insensitive remark. In response to this, the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj felt that if this is the case, Rahul Gandhi should renounce his SPG security cover. She stated, “He (Rahul Gandhi) says job is an issue not terrorism. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi ji, if terrorism is not an issue and there is no terrorism in the country, then why do you go around with SPG security?” She further said, “From the period of assassination of (former Prime Minister and Rahul’s father) Rajiv Gandhi till now all your family is under the security cover of SPG. If you feel that terrorism is not an issue then I want to tell you, you write it and give that you do not need SPG security because you feel there is no terrorism in this country and you are not afraid of anybody.”

Reiterating BJP’s stand on three issues, which are, security, development and welfare; Sushma Swaraj said that the Balakot air strikes were essential in strengthening the defence in the country. The air strikes received international support and she received calls from leaders of several countries appreciating India’s stand on terrorism.
Rahul Gandhi’s insensitive remarks were symptomatic of the cavalier attitude with regard to internal security that the UPA era witnessed. The UPA government should have taken a strong action against Pakistan when the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, in which 166 people including 40 foreign nationals were killed, took place. However, it seems that Congress is used to shoving the threatening issues under a mat and pretending they don’t exist while maintaining a completely weak stance against the terrorist organizations.
Sushma Swaraj has proven her merits as a person proactive against terrorism in the aftermath of the Balakot strikes. Hours after the air strikes, she had spoken to her counterparts in the US, China, Singapore, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and briefed them on the pre-dawn strike on the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror training camps. Moreover, she immediately left for the Russia-India-China meeting and excellently handled the situation in China after which the country, going against their all-weather friend, released a statement against Pakistan.
Therefore, such insensitive remarks are bound to irk such a nationalistic leader who acknowledges the grave issue of terrorism and are dealing with it. Rahul Gandhi with his remark has proven just how proactively Congress is willing to deal with the internal and external aggressive threats to India.
