PM Modi takes a royal dig at the Award Wapasi gang and opposition

PM Modi, Award Wapsi

With the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, PM Narendra Modi has begun his election campaigning in style. Utilizing the jibe of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ to his own benefit, PM Modi, in a national conference with millions of Indians, titled ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’, interacted with people from various walks of life over many issues concerning the nation as a whole.

While he maintained the need of giving dignity to each job and respecting every contribution of every individual towards the betterment of the nation, PM Modi also used this platform to hit out at his detractors, who have tried to mislead people with their fabricated lies against him. Not only did he troll Pakistan for their penchant for cross border terrorism, but he also took a royal dig at the Congress party and their sycophants from the left-liberal intelligentsia.

In one such instance, PM Modi took a smart jibe at the notorious Award Wapsi gang. He said, “…..Uske baad Award Wapsi gang aayi. Koi ghatna ho gaya hai, Award Wapsi gang maidan mein aa jati hai. Maine Sarkar mein puchha yaar, kya kya wapas aaya zara batao toh. Akhbar mein aata hai, maine toh kahi dekha nahi. Na unko rupiye mile award ke saath, wo bhi wapas nahi aaye, lekin ye award wapsi gang, ab jaise hi koi chunav ya ghatna puri ho gayi wo Award Wapsi gang wapas phir ghafr mein jaake so jati hai. (Then came the Award Wapsi gang. Whenever an untoward incident happens, the Award Wapsi gang begins operating. So I asked the government what all did they return, since I only heard about this in newspapers. They haven’t returned the award money that is given with the same. This Award Wapsi gang only comes up during some untoward incident or the elections. After that, they go back to sleep.)”

For those unaware, Award Wapsi gang is the title given to those people, who returned their National Film Awards or Sahitya Akademi Awards in protest against the alleged lynchings of Mohammed Akhlaq in Dadri, UP. PM Modi’s current dig hit them the hardest on the point of money, since barring the exception of Hindi writer Kashi Nath Singh, none of the so-called recipients returned the cash prize given along with the award. Some of the personnel, like the producers of ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’, objected to Dibakar Bannerjee’s ‘award wapsi’ stunt without taking them into consideration.

PM Modi also took a jibe at Congress for backing such propagandists. He also said, “Congress ka jhoot bada seasonal hota hai, jab Dilli mein chunaav chal raha tha, tab unhone jhoot chala diya, aur jhoot kya tha, Church pe hamle ho rahe hain, intolerance…intolerance. Jaise hi chunaav samaapt hogye, intolerance bhi samaapt ho gaya. (Congress’ lies are quite seasonal. When elections occurred in Delhi, then they lied about the attacks on churches, intolerance…. intolerance. The moment the elections came to an end, so did their intolerance)”

Recently, there was a similar ‘intellectual outcry’ against the Modi government. A group of 108 economists and social scientists came together to protest against what they said was the “Narendra Modi government’s move to revise or withhold the release of unfavourable economic data”.

It must be reminded that infamous ‘Award Wapsi’ of 2015 was a meticulously organized anti-Modi campaign sponsored by sympathizers of the Congress party. All the self-declared intellectuals had gathered and ran a malicious campaign against the democratically elected Modi government. But their stunt failed to achieve its objective as the political motivations of the Award Wapsi gang were very obvious.

With this royal dig at the Congress and the Award Wapsi gang, PM Modi has not only exposed their hypocrisy but has also not left any room for an opposition comeback.
