The liberal brigade in India has once again displayed that it is devoid of political ideology and consistency. The brigade has now found a new hero in the MNS chief Raj Thackrey. Their newfound affection for the controversial leader is based on the political impact that he is expected to make in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
Of late, Raj Thackrey has emerged as the star campaigner for the Congress-NCP alliance in the state of Maharashtra. Even though the MNS does not have a single candidate, he has been pressed into service extensively by the Congress-NCP alliance and the alliance hopes that he will eat into Shiv Sena’s votes thereby benefitting the alliance between the Congress and the NCP. On the other hand, Raj Thackrey wants to remain relevant in the political spectrum and pull his party out of oblivion. The political analysts are calling it a win-win opportunity for both the sides. News reports have been hinting towards a tacit understanding between the Congress-NCP alliance and the Raj Thackrey led party.
One does not need much intellect to understand that this tacit understanding between the Congress-NCP coalition and Raj Thackrey is highly opportunistic and lacks any ideological basis. However, the liberal brigade has been not only defending this political understanding but has also virtually gone into celebration mode over this issue. The eminent journalists and self-acclaimed intellectuals are celebrating the possibility that this tacit understanding will create problems for the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition. One such journalists, Nikhil Wagle tweeted, “I haven’t read an independent analysis of Raj Thackeray’s effect on Uddhav’s Shiv Sena. Along with BJP, It has confused and damaged Shiv Sainiks too. Their moral is all time low. The impact will be seen in Mumbai-Thane belt.”

Shekhar Gupta also retweeted a story from The Print which argued ‘Why it’s okay for liberals to retweet Raj Thackeray’s anti-Modi tirades’.

The Founding Editor of the leftist portal, The Wire, also tweeted an article from the portal which sought to argue how the dramatic change in Raj Thackrey’s avatar would act as a boost for the Congress-NCP coalition.

Of the entire brigade, Swati Chaturvedi seemed the most jubilant and tweeted, “Must say @RajThackeray is doing what the panna pramukh media is not doing holding Modi to account”

It is shocking to the core how the left liberal cabal is celebrating the “new avatar” of the MNS supremo. Just because Raj Thackrey has entered into a tacit understanding with the Congress, the pseudo liberals are projecting him as some sort of a hero. The liberal brigade has lost all sense of morality. Raj Thackrey’s anti-North Indian stance and his deep rooted hatred of North Indians is not hidden from anyone. However, the liberal brigade supports anyone who aligns with their political masters and banishes those who seem to oppose their masters. The Raj Thackrey episode has once again exposed their hypocrisy.
