While media criticised Maneka, it turned a deaf ear to Kumaraswamy’s remarks

Kumaraswamy, media, statement

There has been a blatant biased approach of the Lutyens media towards the BJP leaders and Modi government since it came to power in 2014. The left-liberal media establishment has been collaborating with the opposition, mainly Congress and choosing to ignore any wrongdoing by the opposition leaders.

The media had recently criticised BJP leader and Union Minister Maneka Gandhi for her statements as she received much criticism and backlash. However, going with its approach, the media has been silent over Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy’s remarks.

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy had made similar statements saying that those voters who are voting for the opponents, should not expect the JD(S) led Karnataka government to work for them. But the media chose to ignore the controversial statements of the Karnataka CM.

The hypocrisy of the media is evident. The intellectuals who criticized Maneka Gandhi on her statement did not have any reaction on similar statements made by Karnataka CM. The news channels hosted a number of debates and discussions, to criticise the statements of Maneka Gandhi, but there was no criticism against the statement of Kumaraswamy. The Karnataka CM openly told the people of the state that they should not expect him to work for them if they vote for the opponents. This is against the collective responsibility the state holds to ensure the welfare of the citizen of the state indiscriminately.

The intellectual brigade refused to acknowledge the statement of Kumaraswamy and criticise the same. The media has been biased in criticising the BJP party members while completely turning a deaf ear to statements that are made by the opposition parties.

While news channels failed to cover the issue, the Twitter army has taken over the charge of the intellectual media to criticise the Karnataka Chief Minister. Twitter users have replied to the News9 tweet which tweeted his statement. They have criticised the JD(S) leader for making a comment that shows his preference among his own state people. A Chief Minister should represent people who vote for him and also those who don’t vote for him, equally. The right to vote is a fundamental choice and people should not be discriminated on the grounds of who they vote for.

News channels on various occasions have shown that they are biased towards the opposition parties as they have ignored questioning the violence against the BJP party members, supporters and activist across the nation. This is against media ethics. The mainstream media of a country needs to be unbiased and every aspect of news or information should be covered.
