Leaders of the CPM disconnected the power supply to a temple after bhajans from the temple irritated the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan while he was giving a speech. Devotees were singing at the Mudippura temple on the auspicious day of Vishu. Vishu is the Hindu New Year in Kerala. As the part of the election campaign for the LDF candidate A Sampath, Kerala’s CM was giving a speech at the rally in Kattakkata, Attingal Parliamentary constituency.

A Sampath is the CPI (M) candidate from Attingal constituency in Kerala. Vijayan came in support of his party candidate. Kerala CM was giving a speech when the bhajans started to play from the temple. Vijayan expressing his annoyance stopped his speech and asked his party members about the prayer chanting. The party member understanding the temperament of their party leader trespassed the temple and unplugged the supply to the sound system.
The reaction against the rituals of temples by the CPI leaders was inappropriate. This shows the intolerant behaviour of the leaders. This depicts that the Chief Minister is concerned more about his whims and fancies rather than sentiments of people who were celebrating the Vishu festival in the temple.
Media was debarred by the CPI leader to report this incident. Kerala CM and other communist leaders have recently shown a sense of antipathy towards the mantras and Hindu prayer chanting after the Sabarimala issues. Vijayan in the past has lashed out at the BJP on the Sabarimala issue. He termed the government as hostile and violent. He also said that the Kerala government would take strict actions against the BJP, which protested against two women who entered the temple.
Furthermore, there is a viral video that shows CM Vijayan stopped his speech when the Azaan call out rang in the middle of his speech. The CPI leaders through such behaviour are trying to bring a religious disparity among the people of the state. The religious preferences of the party are clear. They know that they have disappointed the majority Hindu, by protesting traditional practices. They have put their money on the minorities. They are ready to insult the sentiments of the Hindu majority in order to please the minority groups in the state of Kerala. The act of plugging out the supply is shameful. It is a clear sign of the party being intolerant. While the CPI (M) leaders criticize the BJP government, they are indicating through such behaviour that they only represent a particular section of the country and are unfit to be given a chance in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
