With just a few days remaining for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress has finally taken note of their failing election campaign strategies. As Congress’ campaign to gain traction in the digital or traditional space has failed, the party has decided to attempt a turnaround of their campaigning plans. According to sources, Congress is now set to focus on the NYAY scheme, which many people in the party believe will help the party to regain its lost glory, past the devastating 2014 general elections.

Announcing that the Congress campaign will be built around the concept of ”NYAY” (justice), senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “People talk on the non-performance, non-deliverance of the BJP government for the last five years. Betrayal, false promises and justice has been denied to the poor.” Joining the team to assist the grand old party is famous lyricist Javed Akhtar, filmmaker and producer, Nikkhil Advani and also Anuja Chauhan.

“Our committee worked hard and had prepared the publicity campaign that was to be launched soon. But then Balakot happened and it was felt that it was not the right time to launch it,” said a senior Congress leader. “And then the Congress president felt we should redo the campaign so work started on war-footing.”

The Congress’ new tagline would be ‘Aa Hoga Nyay’ which will be featured in all electronic and traditional campaign instruments like pamphlets, jingles, videos, etc. This comes after the party decided to focus the campaign solely on Rahul Gandhi and the NYAY scheme, with the tag line ‘Ab Hoga Nyay’, instead of focusing on Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.

Javed Akhtar is a staunch critic of the BJP government. He also denigrated Narendra Modi on several occasions and has finally opened his cards and joined in with Rahul Gandhi to save Congress’ fast receding public support. Javed Akhtar was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha during UPA term in 2009. Nikkhil Advani is an Indian film producer, director and screenwriter.

A senior Congress functionary also added that it was Rahul who wanted the campaign to revolve around the NYAY scheme which many experts have claimed to be ‘economically infeasible’ and ‘just another electoral promise’.

More and more Bollywood personalities opening up to their covert support to Congress is surely a good sign for Indian democracy. People who have been denigrating Indian constitutional institutions, in the garb of neutrality, have been under a lot of pressure from the citizens to come out in public with their biases. This incident points towards the success of citizens, who have for multiple times, pointed out towards these shenanigans and exposed ‘neutral’ personalities.

This move of the party comes after being rejected by several top directors, musicians and others for their campaign. The theme song for the campaign has been penned down by Javed Akhtar and the campaign video was filmed by Nikkhil Advani. The message will be taken by big container trucks fitted with television screens.
