A 75-year-old Modi supporter died on the spot after he was allegedly beaten up by a DMK-Congress supporter. The incident took place on Saturday as the elderly man was campaigning for the upcoming elections. He was campaigning for the AIDMK-BJP alliance in Orthanadu, Tamil Nadu.

The victim, Govindarajan had Modi and Jayalalithaa’s pictures on his T-shirt. He wore the T-shirt around the state to campaign for the alliance. The 75-year-old was also fond of AIDMK founder, MG Ramachandran.

One person named Gopinath was arrested on Sunday and sent to judicial custody by the court. It was reported that Gopinath, who is stated to be a supporter of DMK-Congress alliance, had got into an argument with Govindarajan while he was seeking votes for the AIADMK-BJP alliance.

The media chose to remain silent on this incident, as there is little response regarding the intolerance.  It also raises questions on the left-liberals and Award Wapsi Gang who have chosen to remain mum on the issue. Lack of media coverage and outrage from the so-called intellectuals do not come as a surprise. Congress and DMK have not issued any statement regarding this incident.

Intolerance and violence against the BJP and its allies have been rampant across the country. Recently in January, participants who attended the rally of the BJP President Amit Shah were beaten up in East Midnapore district, West Bengal. Other than that there have been various reports of violence and hooliganism against BJP workers in Bengal. There have also been numerous cases of violence against BJP and RSS workers in the state of Kerala, however, the media and the so-called intellectuals, as always, chose to remain mum on these issues.
