A day after party president Rahul Gandhi apologised for his statement on the Rafale deal in Supreme Court, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh had to face embarrassment when a youth in his rally praised PM Modi.

During an election rally in MP, the former CM of MP took potshots at PM Modi, mocking his consistent efforts towards reforming the Indian economy. He also repeated the archaic jibe of ‘15 lakhs in the account’, asking the audience if they received 15 lakhs in the account promised by PM Modi.

At this moment, however, a youth stood up and yelled that he received his 15 lakhs in the account. An amused Digvijay invited the youth on stage and asked his account details, and how he received the 15 lakhs in his account. To this, the youth boldly replied, ‘Modi ji gave his assent to the surgical strikes against terrorists that is how the 15 lakhs came into my account.’

This was the moment when Digvijay stood exposed, thoroughly insulted by such a frank reply. Embarrassed, the other politicians whisked the man off the stage, and Digvijay tried to repeat his jibe, asking people if 15 lakhs came into their accounts. However, by then, the damage was already done, and Digvijaya’s self-goal soon went viral all around the social media.

However, this is not the first time that the ex-ruler of Raghogarh province has been found shamelessly lying on the stage. Hours before he was embarrassed publicly, Digvijaya said that he did not create ‘Saffron Terror’. He said, “I think they do not have the knowledge of the Hindu civilization. The person, who as home secretary, issued a statement with the word Hindu terror was given a Lok Sabha ticket by BJP and was made the Union Minister. Will Amit Shah speak about it?”

This was a clear attack on ex-Home Secretary RK Singh, who had exposed the murky nexus between Digvijaya and the then Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, who had allegedly given wind to the hoax of Saffron Terror.

Also, this is not the first time that Digvijaya Singh scored such self goals in a political rally. Way back in 2011, during a visit to Kanpur, Digvijaya Singh had affectionately addressed the dreaded Osama Bin Laden as ‘Osama ji’, while denouncing BJP and RSS as a threat to the secular ethos of India. This was one of the few catalysts that had triggered the downfall of the Congress-led UPA government in 2014. Going by the current self-goal, it looks like Digvijaya Singh has learned absolutely nothing from his past mistakes.
