The Congress is in neck deep trouble now. Miffed at the current attitude of the party, P Sudhakar Reddy, an influential Congress leader from Telangana, has officially called it quits. He has not only resigned from Congress, but is also all set to join BJP. According to him, he sees a strong leader in PM Modi and hopes for his return to power.

To quote an excerpt P Sudhakar Reddy’s interview with ANI, “I had been with Congress for last 40 years & faced humiliation at times. Yet I worked for party. We lost badly in Telangana in last elections due to failure of local leadership. LS elections are being contested under same leaders. There are a lot of middlemen; there is no certainty if voice of the loyalists is reaching the leadership. Our soldiers died in Pulwama, in last few months there have been a change in party leaders’ attitude, levelling allegations& saying whatever comes to mind.”

This is not all. P Sudhakar Reddy has also made it clear that he is joining the BJP, owing to its more inclusive nature as compared to Congress. To quote him further, “I have seen a strong leader in PM Modi. I have decided to join the party (BJP). State President has already welcomed me; I am also trying to meet the National President. I hope the PM gets a second tenure.”

Only a couple of days ago, actress Sonakshi Sinha had praised her father Shatrughan Sinha’s entry into Congress, saying he ‘should’ve resigned from BJP a long time ago’. She also hinted at the democratic leadership and the inclusive environment of the Congress party. However, going by the statements of P Sudhakar Reddy, the truth is far from it.

P Sudhakar Reddy is not the only person who has had to quit Congress due to the dismissive attitude of the high command towards internal democracy within the party. The legendary examples of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the last couple of weeks have been extremely disastrous for Congress, with a considerable number of leaders leaving the party due to the extremely pathetic attitude of the party towards sensitive issues like the Pulwama attack and the subsequent airstrikes.

To make matters worse, even regional stalwarts like Tom Vadakkan left the party, citing the insensitive attitude of the party high command towards the Pulwama attacks. The message is loud and clear: Congress is no party for meritorious people, but only insensitive sycophants, who’re ready to lick the boots of the Nehru Gandhi dynasty, come what may. It would be interesting to see how the party responds to this situation, especially when the Lok Sabha elections are just a stone’s throw away.
