Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tweeted the party’s multimedia campaign video. The video has a discriminating tone to it, as the word ‘gay’, which was present in the original picture, was removed. The video does not show the word that was mentioned in the poster held by the activist in the original picture.
Mr. @RahulGandhi why did you remove “Gay”. Aren’t they human too? Why so much hatred for Gays?
Your govt ruled India for over 70 years but couldn’t get away with section 377. Shame on you! pic.twitter.com/ht5tYy5kBE

The picture, originally taken from the pride parade, had the word ‘gay’, which does not feature in the video shared through Rahul Gandhi’s tweet. The original slogan was “I am gay, here to stay, even jail…” Twitter followers have questioned the Congress leader for his stance on the issues of phobia against gay community and the rights they get deprived of. This phobia is clearly reflected in the video that has been tweeted by the Congress President.
Our national, cross platform, multimedia campaign is now LIVE.
With the concept of NYAY at its core, this campaign builds on the promises we’ve made to the people of India in our manifesto.
Please SHARE as widely as you can. #AbHogaNYAY pic.twitter.com/UE7aVOl4pc

The users have also asked the Congress President that even after ruling the country for 70 years, Congress was unable to bring about a positive change in the community’s condition. The act of editing the video has brought shame to the party. The Congress and its supporters have constantly accused the BJP of being homophobic. The Congress party had mocked the BJP by asking it to “be consistent in their homophobia”. The editing done in the video is a proof that the party leader is itself homophobic.
People on twitter have asked why the Congress party did not include the word “gay” in the video which was a part of its multimedia campaign on twitter. The same party, that accused the Prime Minister of not doing much for the LGBTQ community, was involved in such an act. The Congress claims of being inclusive in approach, towards the Indian society, are therefore bogus.
It is evident that the party is intolerant towards the LGBTQ community. Rahul Gandhi portrays himself as the leader of the people, but specifies his set of people clearly through the video. When on one hand, entire nation congratulated and thanked the judiciary for the historic judgement that partial removal Article 377, the Congress President’s acts resurrect the old regressive mentality that has plagued the narrative on the mentioned issue in this nation for long.
The Congress doesn’t seem to fully understand the power of social media. The Congress leaders, however, do not seem to understand the impact that it leaves on people when communities are discriminated. The online media campaign by Congress has also shed light on its agenda and its ideas which are highly discriminatory and highly disliked by the people of this country.
