In a massive boost for the BJP, 907 artistes and persons from the field of literature have released a statement in  support of BJP urging fellow citizens of the country to exercise their franchise and elect the new government without any pressure. The statement highlighted that in the past five years India saw a government which delivered corruption free and development oriented government. The statement also brought to light how India has acquired greater respect during the term of the Modi government. The statement reposed faith in the leadership of PM Modi stating that a continuance of the government led by him is the need of the hour.

The statement also highlighted the need of a stable government at a time when we are facing challenges like terrorism. It stated that we need a “Majboot sarkar” and not a “Mazboor Sarkar”. The artistes include prominent faces such as Pt Jasraj, Hansraj Hans, Anuradha Paudwal, Sudesh Berry and Pankaj Dheer. The signatories also include Shankar Mahadevan, Vivek Oberoi, Koena Mitra, Payal Rohatgi, Rahul Roy and Alok Nath.

It is interesting to note that merely a couple of days ago, 600 artistes including Konkona Sensharma, Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah and Anurag Kashyap had released a statement in which it strongly urged people to vote against the BJP. They had suggested the electorate to vote for “equality and social justice, and to defeat the forces of darkness and barbarism”.

In fact, the artistes seem to be getting pretty involved as far as the Lok Sabha elections are concerned. Even on Friday last week, a joint statement had been signed by several prominent artistes. It had appealed to the electorate to “help safeguard the Constitution and our syncretic, secular ethos”. It had also gone on to state, “Theatre makers in India have a long and proud tradition of standing against forces of religious sectarianism, chauvinism, narrowness and irrationality… We have imagined a secular, democratic, inclusive and just India.”

It is clear that despite several efforts from the left-liberal ecosystem, the anti BJP elements have not been able to make much of a difference. The left liberal ecosystem has been seen as a powerful propaganda tool in the past. However, it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference in today’s time as PM Modi’s inspiring leadership and the BJP’s rising popularity have had a lasting impact on the way Indian political system works. If the anti BJP front has its ecosystem, there are elements supporting the BJP in every walk of life. Now, the electoral narrative will be based on real issues like national security and development on which the BJP already has a high moral ground. Things like perception war and ecosystem driven propaganda won’t make much of a difference in Indian elections any longer.
