The 4th phase of West Bengal elections was once again marred with TMC led violence. In Asansol constituency, TMC goons again resorted to violence to disturb the polling process. The vehicle of the BJP candidate and Union Minister Babul Supariyo was vandalized outside a polling station in Barabani.

According to media reports, the incidence took place when Babul Supariyo was sitting in his car when his rear window was smashed by TMC hooligans. He mentioned that he would visit every single polling booth that faced any problem. He further added “I will take central forces with me. People are saying give us central forces, let us vote,”

The attack became so violent that the police had to use batons to control the fight. The TMC workers initially alleged that BJP workers were creating a problem in the voting procedure. Later, however, the TMC goons in their true color started attacking the BJP workers. While the TMC workers insisted that voting should be resumed, BJP demanded an assistance of the central forces on the booth.
While all this chaos was taking place at various booths in Asansol, the TMC candidate Moon Moon Sen was still worried about her late bed tea. The TMC candidate had no idea about the mayhem created by her party goons. Moreover, she had a bizarre excuse to reason her unawareness of the event. The irresponsible candidate said that she couldn’t get her “bed tea” on time and that made her wake up late. Therefore, she was not aware of the happenings.
Moon Moon Sen, who defeated nine-time lawmaker Basudeb Acharia of the Left in Bankura in 2014 to earn the sobriquet of “giant-killer”, has been moved to Asansol this time as the Trinamool tries to snatch the seat from the BJP. TMC candidate while accepting the fact that she had no knowledge about what was going on in Asansol said, “They gave me my bed tea very late so I woke up very late. What can I say? I really don’t know,” It is hard to believe that a candidate like her is referred to as the “giant killer” when she couldn’t keep a track of activities of her own party hooligans.
A candidate who is least bothered about violence in her constituency claimed to win the seat already. Sen. Then asked if the poll violence took place because TMC wanted the seat said that TMC has already won the seat and that it was to see what was going to happen. Moon Moon Sen, instead of showing concerns over the issue started boasting about the might of TMC.
The eight constituencies voting in Bengal today are in the most violence-prone belt of the state, which is voting in all seven phases of the national election. However, TMC candidates are more concerned about their bed tea, rather than the people of the respective constituencies they are contesting from. The strategy of Trinamool Congress is clear; they do not wish to contest elections by fair means, but violence. TMC leaders are now giving unacceptable excuses and refuse to honour the dignity and safety of fellow competitors.
