Since it stormed to power in 2014, PM Modi led NDA government has performed exceedingly well on the National Security front. It has taken care of the responsibility of keeping the country safe from constant cross border terror attacks committed by dreaded Islamist outfits backed by the Pakistani establishment.

Despite incessant intrusions and ceasefire violations, leading to unfortunate casualties in the armed forces, the civilians are comparatively safe from the scourge of terror attacks that was earlier a norm in the previous UPA government.

Now, in a sensational revelation that has triggered many possible theories about the same, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has hinted towards Indian armed forces having committed three cross border strikes in the past five years.

In a public rally in Mangaluru, Rajnath Singh mentioned the commitment of NDA towards giving the armed forces a free hand in terms of responding fiercely to cross border terrorism.

To quote his address, “Pichle 5 varsho mein, teen baar apni seema ke bahar jaa kar hum logon ne air strike kar kaamyaabi haasil ki hai. Do ki jaankari apko dunga, teesri ki nahi dunga (In the last 5 years, we have conducted airstrikes thrice by crossing our borders (with Pakistan). We have succeeded as well. I will inform you about two, but not about the third)

He further described the way in which terrorists mercilessly attacked our men in uniform, be it at Uri in 2016 or at Pulwama recently. Following the Uri attacks, Indian Army’s commandoes from a joint group of Para Special Forces and the Ghatak platoons of the locally stationed Rashtriya Rifles conducted cross border surgical strikes on terror launchpads in POK. An unspecified number of terrorists were neutralised, while more than 15 Pakistani Army personnel were slayed when they tried to stall the operation.

On the other hand, following the Pulwama attacks, a special squadron of IAF fighter jets took off from various airbases and bombed several terror camps, as well as their specialized control rooms, in locations like Balakot, Chakoti, Muzaffarabad etc. An estimate of 250-350 terrorists are reported to have been neutralised, which includes some of the top brass of the dreaded terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad.

However, with the current statement about the third surgical strike, Rajnath Singh has sent speculations rife. Has India committed another surgical strike? Though some of the netizens are attributing the third strike to the cross border raid on the Naga separatists in 2015, an official revelation about the details of this operation is yet to be made.

If this is cent per cent true, then the ‘third surgical strike’ is a clear proof of how efficient our armed forces are and how committed is Modi government towards giving them a free hand. We appreciate this step and hope that India continues to remain steadfast in their approach against any kind of terrorism.
