In an extremely shocking move, a Congress leader in Karnataka not only mocked PM Narendra Modi, but also openly called for his assassination in an important party function.
Congress leader Belur Gopalakrishna was addressing the party members at an important party function in protest against the alleged celebration of Mohandas Gandhi’s assassination by some fringe extremists.
He came down harshly on them as he said, “My dear friends, these people who speak in favour of Godse today, such people should not stay in the country. If they move to murder the democracy of this country…. If you (extreme right wingers) have the guts, shoot down your Modi. Don’t kill anybody else. I am very happy…”
Notice the last two sentences. Yes, you read that right. Quite contrary to the claims of hate free politics endorsed by Congress president, his own party worker is endorsing the call for assassinating the incumbent PM of India.
Needless to say, the local BJP went hammer and tongs after Belur Gopalakrishna for his acerbic statements against PM Modi.
Belur Gopalakrishna, a Congress leader in a official party function calls for assassination of democratically elected PM Sri @narendramodi ji.
Instigating for assassination of PM of a country is a nation threat & we urge @HMOIndia, @CPBlr to impose legal action immediately. pic.twitter.com/Tg9GO0FCdM

They also called out Rahul Gandhi for being silent on this entire episode.
Well @RahulGandhi we remember you saying you don’t endorse hate politics but now that your own party leader has openly called for assassination of democratically elected PM of this Nation would you act on him ?
If you don’t act it clearly means you endorse his words. https://t.co/C6nw2T3k3J

However, it didn’t look like Gopalakrishna was even remorseful about his actions. He shamelessly justified his actions, trying to shift the blame. To quote him, “I made these comments a month ago. Why is the BJP raking these up now?” he asked.
However, Belur Gopalakrishna isn’t the first person from the opposition to have wished for the death of PM Modi. From journalists like Quint’s Vikas Malhotra to the now-defunct AIB’s notorious propagandist Rohan Joshi, many left-liberals have wished for the assassination of PM Modi. Even Congress supported goon Jignesh Mevani wished for PM Modi’s death not once but twice. As such, though outrageous, this is not entirely surprising.
However, this is still not worth ignoring, since a political party member has officially endorsed such lowly statements publicly, and the top brass of the party is dead silent on this issue, which speaks volumes. If Congress doesn’t apologize for the remarks, they’re further digging their political grave deeper and deeper.
