In a show of the fact that Pakistan is completely rattled by India’s diplomatic offensive, Pakistan foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced that he will not attend the foreign ministers’ meet of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) states. The OIC is an influential grouping of 57 Islamic countries. This announcement by the Pakistan foreign minister comes after the external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj was invited for an address during the inaugural plenary session of the meeting in Abu Dabi on March 1 as a guest of honour. Even though India is not a member country of the said organisation, the OIC has sent the invitation to India as a guest of honour.
This invite has come at a time when Indo-Pak relations have been deteriorating and tensions are growing between the two countries. Ever since Pakistan based terror outfit carried out the Pulwama terror attack on a CRPF convoy, India has been diplomatically aggressive in its reply to Pakistan and carried out ferocious airstrikes on the Jaish e Mohammed terror training camps based in Balakot, Pakistan. Now, external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj is expected to raise the issue of terror in her address during the plenary session of foreign ministers’ meet of the OIC. India has been facing the menace of Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism for several years and there is no reason why India won’t expose Pakistan at every global and supranational forum.
Pakistan was already rattled by the invite which had been sent to India’s external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj. The Pakistan foreign minister had written to the Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General, OIC pleading that the invite extended to India be cancelled. The Pakistan foreign minister had stated that he would be compelled to reconsider the decision of attending the meet if the invitation to his Indian counterpart, Sushma Swaraj was not reconsidered. However, Pakistan’s objection did not make much of a difference. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) came out in India’s support and strongly defended the invitation to invite India as a guest of honour during the foreign ministers’ meet.

Pakistan has clearly succumbed to the diplomatic pressure exerted by India. Its decision to not attend the OIC foreign ministers’ meet shows that Pakistan has melted down in a dramatic way. The terrorist country understands that its nefarious designs have been exposed by India in an unparalleled way. India, which is a rising global power, has strong diplomatic relations with every major power across the globe. No one wants to stand with a terror state like Pakistan. At the same time, no one can afford not to keep a country like India in good humour. Pakistan has been embarrassed ruthlessly by India and the terrorist country has been dealt a historic diplomatic defeat. It will hard for Pakistan to get over this in the near future.
