The seaside bungalow of fugitive offender of Nirav Modi worth 100 crores in Alibaug, Maharashtra has been demolished by the authorities using explosives. He is currently absconding for embezzling funds from Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs. 13000 crores.
Following a review into the permission given to Nirav Modi to construct a bungalow in Alibaug, district collector Vijay Suryawanshi found out that there were many violations in the order issued. Following this discovery, he subsequently issued an order for demolition. He informed the Bombay High Court about the demolition order on December 4 last year.
For those unaware, Nirav Modi is a business tycoon who dealt primarily in diamond jewellery. He is accused of embezzling funds to the amount of Rs. 13000 crores and counting. His uncle, Mehul Choksi is also accused of the same, and both are absconding as of now.
According to the official complaint, Nirav Modi had an approved permission to construct only in an area of 376 sq. meters. However, the bungalow was constructed on area exceeding 1081 sq metres. The swimming pool was alone violating the space permitted for construction legally. All in all, the total structure spread over more than 30,000 sq ft.
Since it was impossible to demolish such a huge bungalow manually, the authorities requested to conduct controlled explosions, following which the bungalow was demolished with 100 explosives, as confirmed by reports as follows:-

This is another tough step taken by the government in order to tighten the noose around Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi. Even though both had a field day during the UPA tenure, the Congress led opposition has exploited their deeds in order to defame the incumbent NDA government, both at the state and the center. As such, their arrests, along with these tough steps, would be nothing less than a jolt to their crafty aspirations. The country is expecting some positive news on this issue soon.
