The latest surf excel ad just days before the festival of Holi has caused much uproar on social media. Indians all over have been criticizing and condemning the ad, on the grounds that it is misplacing victimhood and encouraging divisiveness. In light of this condemnation, a queer situation has occurred. The people have started criticising “Microsoft excel” instead of “surf excel” and have given the computer application bad reviews. This is very weird as there is literally no connection between the two. One is a computer application while the other is a consumer product.
The controversial surf excel ad released last week is a story about a young girl who helps her friend go for his namaz without getting stains of Holi colours on his clothes by finishing off all the colours on herself.
People have stormed the Google play application store and are busy with their 1 star reviews and microsoft excel application boycott promises. It is commonly perceived that angered Hindus in their fascism are doing this stupidity, not knowing the difference between the two. This is what the esteemed publications such as The Indian Express, The Quint and Scoopwhoop have claimed.
However, this is far from reality. Twitter user Ankur Singh revealed that most of the profiles are either fake or belonged to a certain community which is decisively not Hindu. The downgrading was explicitly portrayed as ‘Hindu outrage.’ It has been revealed that the one person, reminiscing the snapchat-snapdeal fiasco wrote a satirical comment and idiots are taking it seriously and sharing it. Carrying forward with the idiocy, we have none other than people with Muslim names who are suddenly concerned about Hindutva. The protesters include people named as, “Muhammad Cp”, “Muhammed Shafi”, “Abdullah Naveed”, “Abdul Latheef Vysyamveettil”, “Munsif Khan”, “Abdul Majeed” and the tip of the iceberg is “Ameer Suhaib” calling Microsoft Excel ‘Hindu phobic’.

This entire online episode is a pretense on the part of a particular community, insulting the religious sentiments of the Hindus. They have taken to the internet, attempting to make fun in a highly offensive manner. First of all, these “Hindu supporters” have gone and given bad reviews to the computer application, in an attempt to make a fool of the Hindus so people think they are illiterate and stupid. Moreover, the likes of The Indian Express and The Quint publishing stories on these blatantly fake reviews to perpetuate a certain intolerant image of the Hindu community. This attempt by a certain section of Indian media is part of the ongoing campaign to demonize the Hindu community and dismiss their valid concerns, their grievances and legitimate slight to their faith.
