The ideology of communism is the very antithesis of democracy and free speech. The CPM which represents the communist ideology in India has lived upto the reputation of curbing internal democracy and the freedom of speech. The party has suspended the Maharashtra state secretary, Narasayya Adam from the Central Committee, party’s highest decision making body for a period of three months. This arbitrary action was taken against him for a bizarre reason, i.e. praising PM Modi.
The CPM stated that his suspension “is a consequence of his speech at a public event in Solapur in the presence of the Prime Minister and state Chief Minister which hurt the party’s image.” It is beyond comprehension how praising the prime minister of the country can hurt the image of a political party. Prime Minister Modi was in Sholapur on January 9 to lay the foundation stone for the construction of 30,000 houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojna in the country’s biggest beedi workers’ colony.
CPM Maharashtra Secretary, Adam has been campaigning for affordable housing for workers engaged in the unorganised sector. He reportedly said that he was grateful towards the prime minister for giving 30,000 houses to the women of Sholapur. Adam had said, “I have been dreaming about this for seven to eight years. The coalition government (of NCP-Congress) had kept it on the back burner for three years. But our brave chief minister (Fadnavis) took out the file and gave to Modi saab and that dream seems to be coming to fruition. I want to urge the Prime Minister….we have resolved that by May 1, 2022, at the hands of Prime Minister, we will built these 30000 houses.”
Under this project, the government will provide Rs. 1.5 lakh to land-owning families so that they can build a house. In case of landless families, the government will provide a financial aid of Rs. 50,000 in order to help them find suitable land to build a house. Adam had reportedly requested PM Modi to distribute the subsidies the subsidies at the earliest so that the houses can be built by May 1, 2022.
It is amply clear that for the CPM, party interests are the paramount consideration. On one hand, the CPM claims to fight for the rights of the downtrodden and on the other hand, they take capricious disciplinary action against a party official merely because he praised PM Modi for working towards the welfare of the downtrodden. This is blatant hypocrisy on the part of the CPM. The party is truly representing the communist ideology of not allowing any space for free speech and democracy within the party.
