As India readies for war with Pakistan, Indian Opposition seeks to undermine own country

Pakistan, Opposition

(PC: Indian Express)

As the tension between India and terrorist nation Pakistan escalates, the Indian opposition has started showing its true color. At a time when the opposition parties should stand with the government, they are playing politics. In a politically-charged statement, clearly aimed to undermine the government, the opposition parties, in a joint statement, “expressed their deep anguish over the blatant politicization of the sacrifices made by our Armed forces by leaders of the ruling party.”

The opposition parties further targeted the incumbent government in their joint statement. The statement by the opposition read, “National security must transcend narrow political considerations. The leaders observed that the Prime Minister has, regrettably, not convened an-all party meeting as per the established practice in our democracy.”

Instead of standing with the government, the opposition parties are blaming the government and accusing the Prime Minister with flimsy accusations. In fact, the government, as was the need, had apprised the opposition of the air-strikes by the IAF in Pakistan on Tuesday in an all-party meeting.

The harsh words of opposition parties only suggest that they are not with the government which is fighting against the enemy of the nation at a time of war. The statement by the opposition parties was clearly aimed to undermine the government, precisely the thing Pakistan’s propaganda machinery, ISPR, is doing. When the Congress-led UPA government was in power, it compromised heavily with the national security just for cheap vote bank politics, and today they are lecturing the government over National security. It seems they are rattled with the government’s strong actions against Pakistan in the aftermath of Pulwama terror attacks. When the UPA was in power, there was an attempt to portray even the 26/11 Mumbai attacks as the work of the so-called Hindu terror despite substantial evidence of Pakistan-based terror outfit executing the massacre.  It must not be forgotten that Congress leader Digvijay Singh, had also suggested the role of Hindu terror behind the 26/11 terror strikes. Instead of taking strong actions against Pakistan sponsored terrorism, the Congress led UPA government decided to politicize the terror attacks that was actual politicization of the issue, and not what the incumbent NDA government is doing.

There are doubts whether Congress considers Kargil victory as worth celebrating or not? In 2009, the then Congress MP Rashid Alvi had termed the Kargil as the BJP’s war. He had said, “Kargil isn’t a thing to be celebrated. The war was fought within our territory. We didn’t even come to know when the Pakistani army crossed over and built bunkers inside our territory. It’s only the NDA which may celebrate.”

It is the duty of every patriotic citizen to support the country’s armed forces and the government at the time of a war, including the political parties. Political differences should be kept aside when it comes to national security. Politically charged statements of our opposition parties would only provide oxygen to Pakistan at a time when war seems inevitable.
