This baffling move comes a day after PM Modi’s rally in West Bengal. The rally which witnessed overwhelming response from the voters of West Bengal has apparently left Mamata worried and the decision to obstruct the rally by CM Yogi with any means necessary seems to be a direct result of this desperation.
The first week of February started with the grand rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was in West Bengal to address the huge gathering in Thakurnagar. With this rally, he officially started the electoral campaign for upcoming 2019 elections. West Bengal recently witnessed a desperate get-together of opposition. In the month of January, former Prime Minister HD Devegowda, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Karnataka counterpart HD Kumaraswamy, political heavyweights like Sharad Pawar and Akhilesh Yadav attended the rally in West Bengal capital Kolkata which was organized by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. The rally in itself was a disaster and not only revealed the ineptitude of the opposition but also the disorganization of the Bengal Chief Minister.
In contrast to this, PM Modi’s rally was a resounding success.
During his visit, PM Modi dedicated Railway electrification of 294 kilometers long Andal- Sainthia-Pakur-Malda and Khana- Sainthia Sections to the nation. He also inaugurated a 20-km-long Hijli-Narayangarh line. PM Modi strongly pitched for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. He insisted that the amendment would bring “justice and respectability” to those who face the plight of religious persecution. In a blistering attack against the ruling party, the PM further explained the gathering about the significance of the Bill. PM Modi stated, “India got Independence after splitting it into pieces. People thought they can make a living in the country of their choice, but there they faced atrocities and torture because of communal malice…Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Parsis.” He challenged TMC to support the bill by further saying that “It was because of this that we brought the Citizenship Bill. These people have no place to go other than India. Should they not be given justice and respectability? I ask the TMC to support the Bill and facilitate its passage in Parliament.”
His speech was welcomed with loud cheers which gave the idea of his growing popularity in the state which was a distant dream for BJP a few years ago but now A C-voter tracker showed the BJP vote share in West Bengal at 31.5%. Also In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s vote share in West Bengal stood at 16.8%, and the analysis by the C-Voter clearly shows a double hike in the vote share. This scares TMC supremo Mamata to the core and BJP is leaving no stone unturned in rattling the foundation of the ruling party in West Bengal.
He also highlighted the key points of Union Budget which will ensure the empowerment of peasants, workmen, and middle class.
Before the rally, PM Modi visited the Matua Thakurbari and sought the blessings of Baro Ma, the current leader of the community and widow of the founder of Matua Mahasangh Harishchandra Thakur. The well attended rally turned out to be a huge success for the BJP who is extending its political clout in the state against the backdrop of upcoming Lok Sabha Election.
The dictatorial decision of Mamata Banerjee to deny CM Yogi’s rally in the state is a desperate response to the huge success of PM Modi’s rally and the voters of Bengal will see right through it.
