The entire nation stands united against Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack. However, it seems that there are a few politicians who still cannot resist showing their love and affection for Pakistan and defaming India, even if it means casting a shadow of doubt on the very country that they live in. This time around actor-turned-politician, Kamal Haasan has made a shameful anti-India remark in connection with the Pulwama terror attack. He went on to demand a plebiscite for Kashmir and questioned what the government was ‘afraid of’.
At a time when the entire nation is mourning the martyrdom of those who laid down their lives protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, such politicians are acting in the most shameless manner. Kashmir, including the Pakistan occupied part of Kashmir, is an integral part of India. Why should a plebiscite be held for a region that naturally belongs to India? India doesn’t need to prove its territorial integrity no matter how much one argues for it.
This shameless remark by Kamal Haasan clearly points towards an organized campaign at igniting separatism in Kashmir even as the entire nation stands united against Pakistan and terrorism in Kashmir. He did not stop here; he also called Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as ‘Azad Kashmir’. It seems that just like Pakistan, people like Kamla Haasan living in India cannot fathom the fact that the entire Kashmir including that part which is illegally occupied by Pakistan is an integral part of India. Therefore, just like the Pakistani establishment, these elements are trying to propagate anti-India sentiment in a relentless manner.
While addressing a gathering, Kamal Haasan said, “I truly regret when people say army men are going to Kashmir to die. The army itself is an old fashioned thing. Like how the world changed, how we decided that humans will not kill each other for food, likewise a time will come to stop fighting. Has civilization not learned this in the past 10 years?” He also said, “When I was running a magazine called ‘Maiyam’ I have written about Kashmir issue and what is expected. I mourn this day because I forecasted that this is what will happen, unfortunately, I should have predicted something else. Hold plebiscite and make people talk…why have they not conducted it? What are they scared of? They want to divide the nation that’s all. Why don’t you ask them again? They won’t do it? Now it (Kashmir) belongs to India, the same situation prevails across the border.”
No one needs Haasan’s unsolicited opinions on Kashmir. The nation has made up its mind. The Indian policy on Pakistan in connection with the issue of Kashmir has reached the point of no return. From here on, Pakistan is going to pay heavily for its misdeeds, beyond all proportions. The nation stands steadfastly with its security forces who will not only give a befitting reply to Pakistan but also bring internal enemies and pro-Pakistan seditious elements to justice.
People like Kamal Haasan are trying to evoke anti-India sentiments especially on the issue of Kashmir. Even at such a critical juncture, such politicians cannot rise above political differences and party lines in the larger national interest. But they must know that this insidious propaganda is not going to take them anywhere. Playing with the sentiments of a nation which is brimming with anger and grief after its bravehearts laid down their lives for their fellow citizens, politicians who still defend Pakistan and anti-national elements are going to have their political careers jeopardized.
