How India fought ISIS successfully under Modi government

ISIS, MODI

(PC: Indiatoday)

According to a Daily Hunt report, India has brought 47 ISIS terrorists back from abroad, in the past four and half years of the Modi government. These Indian nationals were extradited from the Middle-East and were involved in influencing other deluded youngsters to become members of the ISIS.

Most of these terrorists were working outside India as recruiting agents for the Indian youth. They used to poach misguided youth and recruit them for ISIS to conduct terror activities across the world under the flag of ‘Jihadism’ (Islamist militant movements). Indian intelligence agencies tracked their whereabouts earlier and were therefore able to capture and bring them back to India.

Extradited terrorists have proven to be very effective in identifying the ISIS support base in the country. Further questioning revealed that hundreds of ISIS supporters influenced by jihadist ideology have gone to Syria and have made up their mind to work for this terrorist organization.

According to sources, these captured terrorists were in touch with miscreant elements in the Indian youth and used to arrange for money, tickets, etc. for their journey to Syria. A large number of these miscreant youth were brainwashed to lead terror attacks in the name of ISIS.

According to a report from Aaj-Tak, a total of 101 suspects were on the watch list for having links with ISIS, D Company, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Sikh terrorist organizations. Most of them were living in the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, France, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh and Myanmar. A large number of these suspects were from ISIS itself and were living in Middle Eastern countries. Many of them were being arrested and brought back to India since 2014. Not only that, these arrests revealed a lot of sensitive information and helped in busting the ISIS network all over the country.

Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted a module of ISIS’ in the country. Members of this module were plotting a serial blasts in multiple locations across India. After these arrests, the spokesperson and Inspector General of the NIA, Alok Mittal, made a big disclosure saying that these ISIS terrorists were plotting a Fedayeen attack. All the accused were between 20 and 30 years of age and had gathered a considerable stash of explosives to lead a devastating attack, he added.

The NIA further conducted raids at 17 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, arresting a total of five suspects. The local police of Delhi and UP were involved in the operation as well. In September last year, NIA had framed charges against 7 people who were to spread word about the activities of the Islamic State in southern states of Kerala. The charges framed on those accused were of criminal conspiracy under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Since coming to power in 2014, the Modi government has taken many bold steps to curb these shady organisations. A comprehensive anti-terror policy, an active NSA and the precedence of National interest and security over minority appeasement are the reasons behind this successful operation against the ISIS. The fight against terror is a humongous task and the people of the country have entrusted security agencies and the Modi government with their faith and expect that they will safeguard the country from these anti-India elements.
