Counting of votes is underway in Telangana, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. As per initial trends, the BJP has registered a decline in its seats in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is leading on 100 seats, and the Congress is leading on 116 seats; the magic number is 116 in the 230 Madhya Pradesh Legislative assembly.
The state is comprised of six regions- Bundelkhand, Chambal, Mahakoshal, Malwa Non-Tribal, Malwa Tribal, and Vindhya Pradesh. Looks like the saffron party has performed badly in all the regions as compared to its performance in 2013 state assembly elections. In Bundelkhand, and Chambal region the saffron party is leading on 15 and 9 seats respectively which is a change of -8 seats. In Mahakoshal region, the BJP is leading on 17 seats which are again a decline of 13 seats. In Malwa Non-Tribal region, the BJP is leading on 26 seats which is a change of -18 seats. Malwa Tribal followed the similar trends; the party registered a change of -11 seats, and in Vindhya Pradesh, the saffron party is leading on 17 seats. It registered no negative change in this region.
In Rajasthan, the BJP is leading on 80 seats, and the Congress is leading on 99 seats. The Majority mark is 100. The state is comprised of East Rajasthan, Marwar, Mewar-Haroti, and North Rajasthan. In East Rajasthan, the BJP is leading on 22 seats which is a change of -26 seats. In Marwar, Mewar-Haroti and North Rajasthan region, the party registered a decline of -23 seats, -18 seats, and -12 seats, respectively.
Chhattisgarh is also slipping away from the hands of the BJP. The Congress is leading on 52 seats, the BJP is ahead on 27 seats, the BSP and JCC alliance is leading on 10 seats. In three regions of Chattisgarh- Central Chattisgarh, North East Tribal Belt, and Southern Tribal Belt- the BJP registered a change of -12 seats, – 9 seats, and -2 seats. While it registered no change on North West SC Belt, in this region the BJP is leading on 9 seats.
It seems anti-incumbency, and dissatisfaction among the party cadres with the ruling state leader coupled with other issues has spoiled the electoral prospects of the BJP in aforementioned state assembly elections.
