The Rohingya refugee crisis is one of the most hotly debated topics in the country. A lot of concerns have been raised about the problems posed by the mass influx of Rohingyas in India. They pose a security threat to India and as they indulge in illegal activities such as fraudulent procurement and/or fabrication of Indian identity cards — PAN, voter IDs etc — money laundering, crimes and other anti-national activities.

In July, several terrorist activities have come to light involving Rohingyas. Arakan Rohingya Salvation army, a terrorist group of Rohingya Muslims, attacked patrol team of Assam Rifles along the Indo-Myanmar border. According to a One India report, the Rohingya terrorist group opened fire to push back the patrol team of Assam Rifles so that terror camps could be set up on the Indian side of the border. In another shocking incident, two operatives belonging to Jamaat-ul-Mujhahideen were arrested near Delhi. They were planning to carry out a major attack in Delhi. According to a One India report, they were also trying to activate a module consisting of Rohingya Muslims in Delhi.

Despite the solid evidences of involvement of Rohingyas’ into terror activities, there are a lot of top academicians, NGOs and so-called activists who provide assistance to Rohingyas. According to a The Pioneer report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has prepared a list of several organizations and individuals, who are backing and helping illegal Rohingya immigrants.

According to The Pioneer report, the organizations mentioned in the list include Working Group on Alternative Strategies, Crown Newsing, Community Mobilisation, Choton Das of Bondi Mukti Committee, Kolkata, Md Saleel of Kerala Muslim Culture Centre and Amnesty International, India. The list also includes name of a former Ambassador, top lawyers, civil society members and a professor of a renowned university.

The document accessed by The Pioneer also gives state-wise data of Rohingya immigrants. The document said, “There are 1,234 illegal Rohingya immigrants in the national Capital. Of them 163 are untraceable. Demographic details of 894 have been captured.

According to the MHA document, there are 6,523 illegal Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, 6,461 are in Jammu and 62 in Kashmir. There are 264 Rohingyas in Uttar Pradesh, 26 in Assam, 102 in Tamil Nadu, 60 in Karnataka, 16 in Kerala, and one in Maharashtra. The document also says that five Rohingyas from Kerala have left their base for Hyderabad. In Tamil Nadu, 94 have managed to obtain United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card. The ministry failed to get details of illegal Rohingya immigrants living in West Bengal.

The state governments have been also asked to keep a close watch on the illegal Rohingya immigrants. The Pioneer has quoted an official on the condition of anonymity saying, “These illegal Rohingya immigrants are required to be deported back to Myanmar post nationality verification through the Ministry of External Affairs. Due to free floating nature of these illegal immigrants, the process of nationality verification and deportation may be affected. Therefore a vigil on their movement is required.” The MHA has directed all the State Governments to identify them strictly as per the Myanmar verification form. According to The Pioneer, the MHA also advised the States to apprehend Rohingya immigrants’ personal particulars in the new bilingual nationality verification form to be signed by such illegal immigrants and their guardians.

The fresh IB report also said that some people from the Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI), a terror organisation active in Bangladesh and Pakistan, were spotted among the Rohingya refugees. According to Intelligence Bureau, ARSA with the help of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, is trying to establish modules in India.  The Rohingyas have been directed to target North Eastern states as well as high-profile cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Lashkar-e-Tayiba, JMB, SIMI and ISI all are working in tandem to carry out major terror strikes against India and are getting in touch with Rohingyas for this purpose.

The Central government in its affidavit to the Supreme Court had said that some of the Rohingyas with militant background were found to be very active in Jammu, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mewat, and they are a very serious and potential threat to the internal and National security of India.

Despite many reports of IB that Rohingyas are a massive security threat to India, pseudo seculars and liberals have gone about demanding the centre to provide them with a home and other necessities, without realizing the toll it would take on the authorities and the demographics of the area where Rohingyas are resettled. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been at the forefront of the faction demanding that Rohingyas be resettled in West Bengal, while Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has supported the settlement of Rohingyas in winter capital Jammu.

However, the centre and now the MHA has made it very clear that Rohingyas would not be allowed to stay in India and will be sent back. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that, Rohingyas are illegal settlers and hence there is no question of them staying in India. Last month, the Central government deported seven illegal Rohingya immigrants.
