After the release of Thugs of Hindostan, we are sure of the fact, that this is not turning out to be a box office success for Aamir Khan. Tacky script, coupled with underwhelming performances and shoddy VFX were some of the reasons that prevented Thugs of Hindostan from becoming an out and out entertainer.
However, this is not the first time the ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ has starred in a bad movie, nor is this the first time the audiences have been disappointed by an Aamir Khan movie. Here is a comprehensive list of his movies that were way too bad for anyone to bear :
- Tum Mere Ho :
This was a classic case of nepotism at its nadir. Directed and produced by Tahir Hussein, Aamir Khan’s father, this movie starred the iconic duo of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, and was released in 1990. Another Hinduphobic movie with nasty stereotypes, this film barely managed to recover the costs.
2. Daulat Ki Jung :
Thugs of Hindostan is not the only film of Aamir Khan that is accused of plagiarism. Long before this movie, in 1992, came Daulat ki Jung. Based on Hollywood classic Gold (not the Akshay Kumar one), and directed by SA Kader, it was basically nothing but Qayamat se Qayamat Tak with an added treasure hunt. Starring Juhi Chawla and Aamir Khan once again, this was another cringe fest that no true Aamir Khan fan would love to watch.

3. Afsana Pyar Ka :
Before SRK became notorious for his over the top obsession with the romantic genre, it was Aamir Khan who was extremely notorious for his obsession with the teenage romance. One such movie was Afsana Pyar Ka, directed by M R Shahjahan, which just gave a new cover to the same plot line of Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, and no wonder why this film found no takers. Average grosser is too civilized a verdict for this cringe fest.
4. Mela :
This has got to be hands down the worst movie involving Aamir Khan as one of the lead actors. Directed by Dharmesh Darshan, this film was apparently the Sholay with a twist, for instead of a Thakur, an orphaned woman sought revenge. However, the execution was so bad and the script so lousy, that Aamir Khan himself confessed that being a part of Mela was such a huge mistake.
5. Mangal Pandey : The Rising:-
Like Thugs of Hindostan, this was also a criminal loss of a golden opportunity. Starring Aamir Khan as the celebrated sepoy who ignited the Revolt of 1857, and directed by Ketan Mehta, the cliched treatment of such a sensitive subject, followed by absurd plot twists, including affair with an illegitimate prostitute, backfired for the actor, and this movie flopped massively.
As Thugs of Hindostan looks set for a disastrous reception, it is heartening to see that the Indian audience is maturing with time and hopefully, atrocious movies will be a thing of the past.
