Since the advent of the Yogi Government, criminals are running from pillar to post to save their lives.  The on-going all-out war against crime and criminals in UP has been successful in eradicating many notorious and dreaded criminals from the society. According to official Data, 66 criminal have been killed in police encounters since the Yogi government has come to power in over 1400 encounters. There have been over 1,478 police encounters in the state between 20 March 2017 and 25 March 2018. The highest number of encounters happened in Meerut Zone, 569. Bareilly zone is the next one with 253 encounters. Next one in the queue is the Agra zone where 241 encounters took place followed by Kanpur zone with 112 encounters. In CM Yogi’s Gorakhpur district 51 encounters took place. According to the officials “The UP police have invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against 188 criminals and seized assets worth over Rs 150 crore. The Gangster’s Act was imposed on 1,455 persons and 4,881 criminals arrested.”

When the evil men from the society are eliminated, it’s the common people who have the sigh of relief. However, Human Rights Commission and some sections of media have a problem with eradication of evil men in society. Some sections of media even claimed that these encounters are fake and innocent people are being killed. Seeing unnecessary controversy surrounding the encounters, this time UP Police invited journalists to watch and film real encounter in Aligarh. The police in a live encounter killed Mustakim and Nausad. Aligarh SP (city) Atul Srivastava told TOI, “Mustakim and Naushad fired gunshots and raced past a police team after they were signaled to stop. Harduaganj police station in-charge Vinod Kumar followed them, but they managed to hide in an abandoned building, which was later surrounded by additional forces.” Mustakim and Nausad had fired 34 rounds before being killed.

When asked why journalists were invited to record the encounter, Aligarh SSP Ajay Kumar Sahini told TOI, “There is nothing wrong in it. We wanted to provide firsthand information to the media.” He also added, “We were just adopting a transparent approach. Nothing was hidden. If anyone wanted to click pictures or record a video, they were free to do that.” He also highlighted that they are complying with the orders that they have received from the top to share each and every details of the encounters.

Both the criminals were wanted for the murder of six people, including two sadhus, in the last one month. The murders were carried out at the behest of former Etah councilor Sabir Ali. He was arrested on Tuesday by UP Police.

This initiative of live encounter by UP Police is quite good. It would instill more fear among the criminals and it will also put to rest many speculations about the UP Police’s encounter claims. It is also a good way to ensure justice and a right way to send the message of CM Yogi: “Kaayde me rahoge to faayde me rahoge.”
