Long after India gave a bloody nose to Pakistan in the Kargil War, the cold town, situated near Drass sector of Jammu and Kashmir is in news once again. This time, it is because the very party who had led India to a victory against all odds at Kargil war has now made inroads into this town, winning the Kargil Hill Development Council elections for the first time in history.

As posted by Jitendra Singh, the minister of state for the North East and the PMO, BJP has won the municipal elections for the Kargil Hill Development Council, and Sh. Stazin Lakpa becomes the first ever Councilor from BJP to be elected for the same:

With this victory, BJP has once again shut up those critics who claimed that the nationalist party won’t have any presence in this region. Though it was the coalition of PDP and Congress that won the major mandate, BJP still managed to make inroads with this significant victory in the Kargil Hill Development Council elections.  This is immense as the symbolism of BJP victory is the same as the resilience of the leadership that led NDA government into winning the Kargil War.

Apart from victory being a positive note for the nationalist forces, this is also a severe blow to the separatist forces. Despite the repeated attacks on BJP workers and leaders in the valley, which have resulted in the unfortunate deaths of many of such activists since mid 2017, BJP is making gains in the Kashmir Valley, and continues to maintain popularity among the areas of Leh-Ladakh and Jammu as well.

Also, this is a victory that has destroyed one notion clearly. Often BJP has been accused of being a ‘cow belt party’, i.e. the one limited to the north central region of India, especially states like UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh etc.

However, ever since Narendra Modi sweeped the 2014 elections, this notion has been broken time and again. Today BJP assumes power in more than 20 states, whether on its own or with alliance partners. As such, this victory in the Kargil Hill Development Council elections is another feather added to the illustrious cap of BJP.

With this victory, BJP has proved that it is just not limited to the ‘cow belt’ region, but also is popular among  most of the regions in India alike, especially the North Eastern region, where BJP has surprised the established leaders of various states more than once. As such, it won’t be a surprise if the party manages to get reelected to power by 2019 without any hassles, for that might initiate the construction of the India which their forefathers would be really proud of.

That would be a true tribute to the sacrifices of leaders like Sardar Patel, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who never hesitated from fighting for what is actually right.
