TDP’s insecurity is giving the BJP a chance to flog the opposition

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Chandrababu Naidu by bringing up the no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party led central government has scored a self-goal. The TDP leader was hopeful of his motion gaining support from the opposition as he falsely sensed an indication of anti-incumbency against the central leadership. He was quite vocal about his woes with the ruling party emanating from not granting special category status to his home state of Andhra Pradesh. However, it seemed that he was more miffed with the miniscule support and recognition he enjoyed while in coalition with the NDA. His political ambitions of becoming a prominent leader at the national level too came in the way of his alliance with the NDA.

The no-confidence motion might have been beneficial for him to show to his people in the state that he is genuinely worried and concerned about the state and its growth but it failed to make the necessary impact at the national level. The no-confidence motion is going to surely fail as BJP enjoys a brute majority in the Lok Sabha, it is therefore nothing more than a sheer waste of time during the important monsoon session of the Parliament. The opposition which had no choice but to back it up unwillingly too is going to face the heat for supporting such a motion. The TDP was just allotted 13 minutes by the Lok Sabha speaker to clarify all its contentions for bringing about the motion, the other opposition parties got around half an hour while the BJP alone got more than 3 hours to clarify and attack the opposition.

The BJP got ample time to clarify all the allegations levied against it, expose the hypocrisy of TDP, Congress and other opposition parties. This incident has highlighted in the eyes of the public that the Congress and the other opposition parties are simply interested in wasting precious time and resources. The absence of TMC MPs from West Bengal from the Lok Sabha on the day when such an important discussion and voting is about to take place raises doubts over the strength of the supposed ‘Third Front’. The TDP which had just 16 members in the Lok Sabha succeeded in fooling the other parties into the trap from where they are going to come out with just blames and accusations. There is no way that any political party other than those from the NDA are going to benefit from this discussion and voting which will follow. The BJP and its allies have got a chance served to them on a platter to show their strength and dismiss the baseless claims of the opposition. Chandrababu Naidu and TDP have benefitted BJP the most knowingly or unknowingly and that is how politics works.
