Muslim hardliner, Owaisi is known for his controversial remarks and outright fundamentalism has come up with yet another controversial and highly preposterous statement. The President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi dragged forces into his communal and venomous politics. He was ranting against PM Modi while delivering a speech in Telangana’s Gadwat. In his speech, in pursuit to attack PM Modi he stooped so low that he had gone to the extent of questioning PM Modi over the number of Muslims in the forces. He said, “PM is showering love towards Muslims. I want to ask him a single thing. Please tell us in your 4-year tenure how many Muslims did you recruit in CRPF, how many Muslims got jobs in BSF, how many Muslims got job in RAF, how many Muslims got a job in ITBP. We will give you 1 week’s time. Please let us know how many Muslims got jobs in these organizations.” He further added, “As per records it’s clear that in CISF only 3.7 percent Muslims are there. In CRPF only 5.5 percent of Muslims are there. In RAF (those who come wearing different clothes during tension and does lathi charge on us only) only 6.9 percent Muslims are there. Is this a multicultural atmosphere?”
Owaisi has taken politics to a new low by dragging one of the most respected institutions of the country into his dirty, nauseating communal politics. What he has done is not just immoral and unethical but also illegal. In 2017, the Supreme Court in a landmark judgment held that seeking votes on the ground of “religion, race, caste, community or language” amounted to “corrupt practice” and election of a candidate indulged in it would be declared null and void. The SC ruled that, “An appeal in the name of religion, race, caste, community or language is impermissible under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and would constitute a corrupt practice sufficient to annul the election in which such an appeal was made regardless whether the appeal was in the name of the candidate’s religion or the religion of the election agent or that of the opponent or that of the voter’s.”
But it looks like some leaders are not taking the ruling of the Supreme Court seriously and are indulged in exploiting the religion and caste for their political interests. The opposition in India is known for crossing their limits in politics. The opposition parties of India had even gone to the extent of questioning the surgical strikes. There are certain limits when it comes to politics and national security is one such topic where every political party should refrain from playing dirty.
As far as Owaisi is concerned, it’s not the first time that he came up with a controversial campaign. Last Month, he made an open appeal to the Muslim community to vote only for Muslim candidates. At the time of demonetization, Owaisi alleged Narendra Modi-led central government of partiality in giving out cash at minority dominated areas. Asaduddin Owaisi and his divisive politics are nothing new for the Indian masses. AIMIM was revived by Owaisi’s grandfather in Hyderabad and it was able to win seats for the Muslim-majority in Hyderabad. The political family of Owaisi has always maintained a pro-Muslim and a anti-Hindu image. Owaisi’s own younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi has again given out anti-Hindu speeches at rallies in Hyderabad. Making fun of Hindu gods and goddesses, threatening to kill Hindus and inflammatory comments against political leaders are his forte.
