When PM Modi accused the Congress party of being biased towards Muslims, it caused a furore among the liberal intelligentsia who accused the incumbent PM of playing dirty politics in an attempt to corner the Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s recent attacks over his tenure. They also tried to divert attention from the accusations by posting malicious tweets against PM Modi’s integrity in connection with the recent arrest of ex-PM of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif.
However, a recent interview of the head of the Congress minority cell in a Urdu daily proves that PM Modi’s accusations were right.
As exposed by the spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party, Dr. Sambit Patra, in an interview to the Inquilab, the Urdu newspaper published by the publishers of popular nationalist newspaper Dainik Jagran, the Congress minority cell head Nadeem Javed has reiterated that Congress is a party for Muslims. This was, allegedly, confirmed in a rally by the party President Rahul Gandhi.
Nadeem Javed said, ‘Rahul ji is right when he said Congress is a party for Muslims…..He will soon meet the Muslim clergy and preside over a Muslim convention.’

Though surprising, this was not entirely unexpected from the Congress. The party is notorious for its blatant appeasement towards the Muslim community. It is not hard to understand the motives behind the arbitrary ban on Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses or the dramatic overturn of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the notorious Shah Bano Case.
The Shah Bano controversy is the same verdict for which a recent criticism of the then PM Rajiv Gandhi by a character in the famous Netflix web series ‘Sacred Games’ triggered the Congress so much that they filed an FIR against the makers of this series. The recent interview only reveals a simple fact, Congress’ penchant for Muslim appeasement is no more a hush hush affair. It’s all out in the open, especially after this interview.
As for the tweet, we don’t deny that Dr. Patra is quite aggressive as both a spokesperson and a social media user. But the way the left liberal intelligentsia have come out to vociferously defend the Congress high command denouncing all such questions as ‘trolls’ and ‘fake news’, it seems that Sambit Patra might not be wrong either.
One of the chief reasons for which the UPA coalition was kicked out of power in 2014 was the same minority appeasement. How could one expect an impartial approach when the PM in office himself says that Muslims should have the first right over the country’s resources?
However, with this interview to the Inquilab, the Congress’ agenda is now out in the open. They can’t hide behind the façade of secularism and claim themselves to be the champions of the downtrodden anymore. Now, they will simply have to embrace this fact and hope that the Muslim community buys the fake promises of the Congress, which seems highly unlikely.
